Winter Warmer 2006: Gt Harwood.

If you’re not doing anything tonight, then why not pop over to Harwood and meet Father Christmas?

A Wish Come True

After five months of fundraising and organisation the Great Harwood Winter Warmer 2006 will take place from 5.30 on Friday 1st December Between Town Gate Square and the Co-oP on Queen Street.

Event organiser Janet Doyle said, “It has been exceptionally hard work this year as we have not received any large grants. We have raised almost £8500 ourselves with our largest grant being £725 from Hyndburn Borough Council and the smallest amount was a donation of £2. We would like to thank all the sponsors, local businesses, clubs and organisations that have supported us and helped us to raise the money to stage the event.

“We started with a small group of volunteers in July and thanks to the support from the people of Great Harwood the event looks to be even bigger and better than last year. Volunteers have contributed thousands of hours of free time.
“Eleven local schools and groups have been making lanterns for the torchlight parade. Many shops and businesses have dressed their windows in the fairytales, myths and legends theme.”
“Fundraiser Barbara Sharples said, “We have a wide range of stalls featuring bazaars, Christmas gifts, food and several games such as a coconut shy and a human fruit machine.

“Father Christmas will be appearing and children will have an opportunity to have their photograph taken at his sleigh. Eckie Thump the clown will be performing magic tricks and entertaining the children. There is a small fairground for younger children and entertainment featuring the Tarkeena Belly Dancers. The Bee Radio will also be providing entertainment.

“This is a FREE event for the people of the town so we hope we have a great turn out on the night. There is still time for children to enter the fancy dress competition which will be judged at 5.45 at the Fire Station.

“Raffle tickets are still on sale as the draw does not take place until Saturday 16th December.

The roads will close from 3pm until approximately 10pm but this year we are leaving Blackburn Road and Church Street open to through traffic.

Well I went down around 7.30 ish and the place was buzzing. Unfortunately about 7.45 the rain came down and I only managed to photo a dance team. By 8.00 o clock the place had almost cleared and the stalls where packing up, pity.

I've just been too - actually saw you Len and looking at your pictures I saw you when you were moving from taking pic 4 into the position to take pic 5.

It was just starting raining and was past the kids bedtime so we were heading home. It was a good event - well done to the organisers.

Looks like it could have been a really good evening if it wasn't for the weather

Nice photo's Len. Thanks.

Hope you had a good night last night, and didn't get to drunk.

Missed it this year as I was out of town.... my youngest son enjoyed it though, even though he only won a bottle of fizzy water and a tin of veg soup on the tombola :p
