Old Mother Redcap

Went to the Old Mother Redcap yesterday and would highly recommend you give it a whirl. £3:50 for carvery or £5:00 for two courses, food is delicious.

Re: Old Mother Redcap

I went a couple of month's ago. I didn't find it nice and ended up leaving with no food.

I used to like the Mother red cap before it turned Carvery. I think the thing that put me off was seeing the fella serving the meat and cutting all the different meats with the same knife. Then a lady coughed all over the potato's without covering her mouth or even trying to.

But glad you enjoyed it Bernie :D

It could have been!! I know a lot of people that said it was good too, that's why I went, But that experience has put me off.

Re: Old Mother Redcap

Just come back... not so good this time: there was blood and rather a lot of it on the base of the turkey... so I had beef which was ok and the veg and yorkshires ( well you could eat them just ) so its gone down since last time I went... that said £3.50 you get what you pay for:

LYNX1 10-12-2007 17:26

Re: Old Mother Redcap

Went a few weeks ago........first time I've been in there in donkeys years...can't fault it......have paid a lot more for a meal and not enjoyed it as much.........I would definitely go again :D

Re: Old Mother Redcap

iv'e been a few times too & can't fault it either, the cooks & staff are under a loads of pressure in that job, but must agree magpie i wouldn't have had the turkey either, but i would have complained there & then to the manager.

magpie 11-12-2007 16:35

Re: Old Mother Redcap

we did mention it... and he then went on to cut the meat from the other side... and using the same knife: like I said the price is cheap so you get what you pay for: that said I have also paid shed loads at other places and had rubish food... just put me off the turkey : these things happen it would not put me off going again ( but I will make sure I look at the meat closely)

Re: Old Mother Redcap

Please note that if you take any vegetarians it will cost them six quid for the veggie option.
Childrens carvery is 3.25

My daughter was sick twice in the night (on me as well) but we don`t eat that kind of food very often.
I didn`t enjoy it enough to bother again.
`tis cheap tho

fc:stanley 13-12-2007 09:40

Re: Old Mother Redcap

I think the carvey is quite good , not the best but you cant beat it for £3.50 on a saturday! :) We always have takeaway on a friday and i seem to go and get a meal from mcdonalds the carvery is the same price as a mcdonalds meal and id rather eat the carvery then a mcdonalds so end up going there instead now.

10 of us just been, everyone thought it was very good, also brilliant value, whilst it aint my favourite place, no complaints, very shorted staffed, but those who were working were first rate.:)

Re: Old Mother Redcap

Been several times now, had the odd ropey bits but for £3.50 you aint gonna get perfection everytime. Give staff their due, always friendly & there to please & always been asked at some time thru meal if everything ok. There are other carveries around but u will pay a lot more for em.

i have been a few times the food is preyyt good for the money (what do you wont for under a fiver) as for useing the same knife on all three meats well there cooked what does it matter if they were raw then you can have a moan and the staff work very hard i now as my sister in law works there

I've been Willows several times, and liked it everytime. I've never had a problem. And they are very good with children also.

Re: Old Mother Redcap

Is there a history of hauntings in the area of the Redcap?

I ask because I once had a conversation with a man who had lived in one of the houses in the hill opposite. He claimed that the house was haunted and cursed, which he blamed on satanic practices, akin to the Hell Fire Club rituals, which had gone on in the past in a cave under that hill.

Brewer's Fayre don't cook. They just warm up pre prepared food that they have delivered.

My uncle went to one once and asked for an omelette without mushrooms (it was on the menu as containing mushrooms).

The reply was that you'll have to have it with mushrooms, they come prepared with mushrooms in them, we don't make them here. :(

Cool. :D

I bet the scene was very similar to that, except for the bit at the end where the guy swept all the crockery off the table, he didn't do that lol.

Was that filmed in a Brewer's Fayre? :D
