St Georges Day
It's fast approaching. Any events? Anything happening? Or are all the English busy organising next years st patricks day... Must be summat going on ? Anyone ? :)
|
Re: St Georges Day
There bloody well should be....I'm sick & tired of reading about various publically subsidised events, such as St Patricks Day bashes, Gay bashes, Festival oF Eid, etc....shut this nonsense down and lets celebrate ENGLAND!
|
Re: St Georges Day
It's a sad state of affairs when the majority of English people do not know when St Georges Day is.
|
Re: St Georges Day
[QUOTE lets celebrate ENGLAND![/QUOTE]
I shall be celebrating St Georges Day with a few scoops of Charles Wells' Bombardier, the self appointed official unofficial beer of St Georges Day. If you go to the Charles Wells homepage www.charleswells.co.uk and follow the link to www.bombardier.co.uk there a few items of interest which may twang your heartstrings and love for your Mother Country... Sign the petition to make St Georges Day a bank holiday, follw the link to www.thevalueofstgeorge.com. Food, (and drink), for thought there, Tealeaf. |
Re: St Georges Day
I agree....if we're going to have a holiday in April/May, then lets gets rid of this May Day Euro nonsense and have St Georges Day...let the Joc's & the Taffs have their hoidays as well. May Day (certainly where I am at the moment) is no more than an excuse for various anarchists, animal-lovers and 57 other varieties of riff-raff to turn up & smash the town up. They would'nt dare do that on St Georges Day.
|
Re: St Georges Day
St. Georges Day Parade in Accy - 23rd April - is that still around??
|
Re: St Georges Day
First I've heard of it...
|
Re: St Georges Day
We used to go with the Brownies and girl guides every year. Is it the 23rd or the 21st? One of the two is St. Georges day, the other is the Queen's birthday - you see, there aer some patriots out here still...
|
Re: St Georges Day
Was that on the actual date or on the nearest saturday/sunday to the 23rd?....I always thought we celebreated the Queens Birthday on her official birthday.
I get an invite every year to a St Georges Day bash in Australia which is combined over the weekend with Anzac day on 25th April...it's held over a long weekend from the nearest thursday night to tuesday morning. About a 1000 people with a medieval theme. Unfortunatly, I've never been...maybe next year |
Re: St Georges Day
What is the point of St. George's day ??
or indeed any Saint's day ? |
Re: St Georges Day
Saints Days are probably about as insignificant as your birthday, Baudelaire.
|

Re: St Georges Day
probably a bit more....at least there is something to celebrate on a Saints Day..
|
Re: St Georges Day
Precisely what is there to celebrate and why ?
|
Re: St Georges Day
a holiday, for starters.
|
Re: St Georges Day
That's what we were wondering Baudelaire - please let us know precisely what there is to celebrate on your birthday and why.
Cheers! |
Re: St Georges Day
Don't be so cruel Jo - he might not invite you to his party.
|
Re: St Georges Day
We already have loads of public holidays around this time of the year. Why not have one (or more) in October/November ?
The idea of having a day to celebrate the life of some mythical being is bizarre to say the least in the 21st century. |
Re: St Georges Day
Introduce St Georges Day. Scrap May Day (Euro nonsense). Have a holiday 18th june (Waterloo day) and another 21st October (Trafalgar Day).

Re: St Georges Day
I never heard of Saints described as mythical beings.... been watching too many sci fis!!
Saints Days are simply days on which the lives of extraordinary people are celebrated. For example, after all the good work Mother Theresa did, should she be automatically forgotten just because she's dead? I think it's nice to remember her every now and again, and maybe ask ourselves whether we shouldn't be a bit nicer ourselves in our every day lives sometimes. I'm not saying we have to have a holiday for every Saints day, but as many holidays as possible is fine by me. When I', gone, Tealeaf, could you plead on my behald to have St. Jo's day in Summer and not in the middle of Winter? Thanks dear!! |
Re: St Georges Day
Mother Theresa was a real person who did good works and of course her life should be celebrated.
I would agree to having a St. Therese's day, but St George, what did he do that was so good ? He is a character from legend, portrayed as slaying dragons !!! |
Re: St Georges Day
The Dragon, Baud, is a metaphor for all the nasty evil in the world - something which the English are very good at confronting and fighting.

...and causing !

Re: St Georges Day
I think all everyone wants is a day to celebrate who they are & where they are from. A day to be English & allowed to be proud of it! It doesn't matter what day of the week St Patrick's day is in Ireland - it's a bank holiday. Why? Cos their allowed to be proud of who they are. Just because there are a few bank holidays around this time of year is no excuse. Us Brits don't get half as many national holidays as most European countries anyway. Besides - wouldn't you rather be off at a time it maybe nice weather & you could do something. What would you do in Oct/Nov - Christmas shopping???
|
Re: St Georges Day
Baudelaire doesn't do Xmas shopping - he doesn't celebrate the birthday of legendary figures like Jesus Christ.
|
Re: St Georges Day
Santa is real my mum and dad told me
|
Re: St Georges Day
So is Rudolf.
|
Re: St Georges Day
Stanta Clause's Saints Day is actuially the 6th December - St. Nicolas. In Germany, austria and here in South Tyrol, the kids get presents from St. Nicolas (Santa Claus) on this day.
I don't think there is a St. Rudolf's day, but I'll check. |
Re: St Georges Day
Do they celebrate 25th December as well - or just get their pressies early?
|
Re: St Georges Day
On the 24th evening baby Jesus brings pressies to the little Children, so they get pressies twice! Alright for some eh? Though I must say they don't spend as much as Xmas as we do in England, the children usually get one Christmas present. On St. Nic's day, they may get a couple of things, but it's not as commercial as in the UK.
Just to top things off though, the three wise men bring them sweets on Jan 6th (Epiphany) - like Easter early! |
Re: St Georges Day
oo id say that is not a bad idea jo, ive got 11 grandchildren wot i woulnt give to have a cheaper xmas & easter might i add.
|
Re: St Georges Day
I agree we probably do spend too much over here at Christmas. And Easter, I used to get a couple of Easter Eggs at the most, which I think is enough. But a woman at work says her two kids get about 15 eggs each from relatives! I think that is far too much. I would rather Aunties & Uncles gave them money rather than all the chocolate - I think.
|
Re: St Georges Day
What has Easter or Christmas got to do with St Georges Day?
|
Re: St Georges Day
It's obviously not politically correct to discuss St Georges Day in England you may upset someone and we can't have that can we?
|
Re: St Georges Day
off subject here people :D
|
Re: St Georges Day
Doh - I think this is the second telling off I've had! Really sorry to thread starter

:rose8: Kipax did you actualy go on these nutters website? what a load of tripe my dad was a member of the St George Society in Burnley and if you need any info give them a call. http://www.royalsocietyofstgeorge.com/
|
Re: St Georges Day
And what exactly is tripe about it Baz? oh wait a minute, is it because it is full of hard evidence regarding the state of England? After all, you're not allowed to support the English majority nowadays.
The site is full of links, news and FACTS. if you think that is tripe perhaps you should put your head back in the sand for your fellow Liberals. |
Re: St Georges Day
Yeah like the link if you disagree we will delete it!!!!!!!!!!! sounds like the Nazis or of course just being british!!!!!!! dont see many of you fighting for your country or is it only if the ex empire is being invaded you will stand up and fight? sounds very zenophobic, and of course you wer'nt picked on in school for being different.............:moon:
|
Re: St Georges Day
The problem is too many people just bury their heads in the sand and say or do nothing, I myself am an Englishman and all I want is to be able in some small way to celebrate an English day in my own country without some Politically Correct nutter telling me I can't because it may upset somebody.

cause u have very strong controversial views, ur entitled to ur opinion, but dont try convince us. |
Re: St Georges Day
Bagpuss... well said... have some karma on me :)
|
Re: St Georges Day
There is nothing controversial about being English and proud of it !!!
|
Re: St Georges Day
there isnt, but there is controversy on that forum he linked us too.
|
Re: St Georges Day
That mr Bagpuss I can understand and I am behind you all the way, its just when nutters try and undermind the great day for there own political agenda I tend to get on my soapbox, if you look at the website you will see it is useing St Georges day as a soap screen for the Bnp.
|
Re: St Georges Day
The whole purpose of the original post was not to try to convince anyone. It was posted regarding links and St George's Day information. We have a list of links relating to St George's day events, and thought you might all find them useful that is all. We did not post the message to offend.
Yes the site has strong views and so does the forum, but people have a right to express these views and we have the platform for them. Quote:
We are simply trying to promote St George's Day as a holiday for the English. What is wrong with that? Our site isn't racist, it simply contains facts. The forum is an open forum because we believe in freedom of speech. Quote:
So please don't title us as Nazis, or the BNP because we are neither. We are simply proud Englishmen and woman who love England. |
Re: St Georges Day
So there you are Bazf thats told you, personally I wasn't offended by the website.
|
Re: St Georges Day
Thank you Bagpuss. That's because the site isn't meant to offend. People who are offended are offended because they don't want to know, or choose to ignore the truth.
|
Re: St Georges Day
The website isn't my cup of tea... However i dont think there was anyhting wrong in posting the link to it... theres a lot of websites I dont like that people have links to... But I wouldn't hang em for it...
I still want a local event for st georges day though :) |
Re: St Georges Day
OK- I have to step in here. This isn't the place for political arguments. Please lets keep this topic to St. Georges day celebrations, or I'll have to close the thread.
On topic - we've got a St. Georges day celebration over here in one of the english pubs, so if anyone wants to visit Russia to celebrate our good old St. George then drop me a line :) |
Re: St Georges Day
That's the point Roy even in Russia you are allowed to celebrate St. Georges Day but in England you have the problem of upsetting non English people.
|
Re: St Georges Day

I won't be starting till this afternoon, although that will depend upon the rogue Branson and his so-called railway service...allowing for that, I shall be drinking my way accross our green and sceptred land, hopefully to arrive in Accy in a state oF blissful contentment sometime this evening.
CHEERS! HAPPY SAINT GEORGES DAY! |
