Mimi is down there at the moment. She'd been helping them set up the tents. These are the guys and gals from the Hope Centre in Ossy. Looks like they are having lots of fun. There's nail art painting going on too.

Yes it is, it used to be a church but i think they're trying to distance themselves from that at the moment.

Re: free face painting and bouncy castle in town today
Off thread (as usual), I went down this afternoon ... noticed they had some pseudo-gates at the Union Sreet end of Broadway ... stainless steel with acorns designed in the middle .. have never noticed before, are they new ? Very smart and the flowers were lovely. Forgot me camera, darn it ..

Re: free face painting and bouncy castle in town today
In a way it's neither a name change nor a split from what I have been told. It didn't have anything to split from as it was totally independant. It's more of an amalgamation with a similar body of the same name in Yorkshire. The chappie who ran the Hope Centre church has pootled off elsewhere to start a new church so in that way it may well be considered a kind of a split. I have no idea what the new one he has is called or where it is located though as the person Mimi asked didn't seem to know that. What was the Hope Centre is now this Global thingamajig and incorporates all the aspects of the Yorkshire one. It still has the Friday youth club (but smaller apparently) and church there on Sundays.

Re: free face painting and bouncy castle in town today
It was sold to GlobalYorks. It was sold under the condition that Brian (the former owner) could continue to do some of the work that he was doing in an office within the building. The new owners changed the name to GlobalLancs to tie in with GlobalYorks. Apparently within about four weeks Brian then moved out (whether he was pushed or decided to move out I don't know).

Re: free face painting and bouncy castle in town today
I was surprised that they packed up so soon after lunchtime.
As a person who rarely emerges before noon, I find this often. For example - the 'well woman' clinic at my doc is from 8.30 to 9.30am. At that time only women who are well can easily attend  |
Re: free face painting and bouncy castle in town today
That sounds like a much clearer version of what I was told Gayle
So how do you sell a church? They've got a website : GlobalLancs |
Re: free face painting and bouncy castle in town today
They're a non-denominational christian 'church' - not technically a church. I suppose there's a network of them around the country so when one wants to sell up there's a ready made market. I guess!!!

Re: free face painting and bouncy castle in town today
I think you 2 filled in all the blanks for me nicely, thanks. I just told the short story to save me doing all the typing :D
From what I was told you are both right with what you put. Quote:

Re: free face painting and bouncy castle in town today
To me a church is a congregation of people. I know there's the building they meet in and all that sort of stuff but I've been a member of the same church for donkeys years and met in all sorts of different buildings, rented rooms and purpose built, sometimes shared, chapels. It's always been the same church though because the church has been/is the members. Just seems an odd sort of thing to do, to sell a church (as opposed to selling the building)

Re: free face painting and bouncy castle in town today
The Hope Centre wasn't sold.It was passed on to Dave Shore who seemed to see it as a money-making opportunity. Many of the people who paid towards and helped build the church then left.

Re: free face painting and bouncy castle in town today
Brian was pushed out and many other people left when Dave Shore took over.

Re: free face painting and bouncy castle in town today
I always find it odd that it's a licensed property, with a great big bar in there.
If I think of Jesus, I never picture him lent on a bar. Apparently when an alcohol lisense was applied for, it was on the understanding it was to cover catered for celebrations, such as weddings etc., and now it seems to be a seven day a week pub. God moves in mysterious ways.  |

Best leave him alone. He's just gearing himself up. Soon he'll be throwing glasses about, and overturning the tills, whilst shouting about his house being a house of prayer for all nations, and not a den for robbers. ;):D |
