Ill be sitting at home ignoring them I think

(saying that though, might be safer answering and offering sweets or i may end up having eggs pelted at my house or something not so nice)

Re: Halloween

We dont celebrate it like the americans,I personally think its a waste of money, and no i wont be answering the door either, half the kids are only after money!!, and it makes me laugh when ya see a teenager just putting a mask on and saying trick or treat!!, c'mon like ya really made the effort!!

GO HOME!!

Re: Halloween

Unfortunatly this if the effect some idiots leave on the youth of today, making people think their going to egg their houses. I know a few kids in the family and i for a fact know they make an absolute big effort to get ready and buy there own stuff through their pocket money. This to them is one of the nights of the year they look forward to it and its so sad when i see them walk round or walk round with them and people are sat in their houses watching tv and dont answer the door, they generally make the effort to say scary things and to do different haloween things on the door step, but its horrible this event has been ruined :(

I like Halloween and will be answering the door to each and every one and giving them sweets. I too think it's bad that this annual event that the younger kids really enjoy has been effectively spoiled by people not making an effort, either to wear an outfit or to answer the door ! Get some sweeties in you grumpy bunch !;)
My daughter is too old for it now but will still want to carve a pumpkin and rush to the door !:D

I have no problem with kids enjoying them selves, having a party at home or with a social group, like brownies is a good idea. or going to friends or relatives doors even.

Ok, let em go round knocking at doors if they want, to people who want to hand over money, sweets, whatever. But I don't see why myself and others should be classed as miserable gits because we won't answer the door. And we won't all be "sat in front of the telly". Some of us have more important things to do than getting up to answer the door all night.

Even if these kids have made the effort with their pocket money, why should I hand money over to re-emburse that? And if I had money to spare for sweets, they would be going to my grandkids. :)

Young kids coming round on their own without an adult annoys me too, who lets little uns out on there own after dark?

Re: Halloween

Some of you here are under the impression that trick and treat type rituals are a british tradition which you don't like to see spoiled ------------- it is not so.

There were never such rituals in my childhood --- it is a cheapskate moneyspinner imported from USA.

If it dies a death due to misuse I wont miss it

Halloween promises to be a messy affair up here in Abers. We're all doing fancy dress, I'm putting together an Old Gregg costume :D

Re: Halloween

For the younger kids it is a tradition; they don't care whose tradition it is or was ! :)

Re: Halloween

Anyone know whether those 'No Trick or Treat' window stickers are available at the library again this year?

Caz 17-10-2008 18:01

Re: Halloween

Wasn't tradition when I was younger either, never remember anyone coming to the door back then. Penny for the Guy, yes, Halloween, no

Not saying they shouldn't have their fun and traditions Linds, just don't see why we should have it inflicted on us & be called miserable for not getting involved. :)

Re: Halloween

I'll give the sweets to the younger ones - the ones still in primary school ..... the teenagers dont get anything. Told them all last year its kids .... not teenagers. I wont give money to any of them .... i'll buy a bag of sweets and once theyre gone then thats it. Plus im going out anyway - so if they knock when im waiting for the lift ....... then theyre going to get a shock!!!

It's so sad that this hideous business has become de rigeur in the UK at all. :(

Re: Halloween

Would it be remiss of me to yank open the door dressed in black with a toy axe covered in theatre blood and with made-up wax wounds all over my face?

I could switch off all the lights and wire up a halogen lamp pointing up into the house on the doorstep so it comes on when the door is open. A little webcam would have the dual role of capturing reactions and serving as an early warning so the very young can be attended by someone a bit less frightening...

Will be doing my usual , going to the discount store and stocking up on childrens tooth-brushes, 50 for $10 and handing those out , I started it a few years back with the idea that the kids would think "he's a miserable owd sod" but it backfired on me when couple of parents/chaperones thought it was a good idea , now they come every year for a new tooth-brush  ;)
