Britannia Pub
went to the Britannia pub on Friday dinnertime for the carvery, not a bad price at £3.25....but the food is utter crap
we went to get our meat and the chef literally cut a huge wedge of beef and a huge wedge of pork and just dumped it on our plates(we are talking doorstep sizes) ok, yes its fine if you like your meat to be presented to you like your a caveman, but i dont, he didnt even 'slice' it anyone else been and had great lumps of meat stuck on their plates? |
Re: Britannia Pub
Do you not like a big meaty mouthful? ;)
|
Re: Britannia Pub
not that bloody meaty no, i'm not used to things nearly making me gag
|
Re: Britannia Pub
We don't go to the Britannia because the kids menu is rubbish. :(
Chicken nuggets, fish fingers etc.......they don't eat that rubbish at home so why would they want it when they go out? I find these types of kids menus really insulting. |
Re: Britannia Pub
What exactly are you complaining about , the fact that you were given too much meat or the fact it should have been cut up smaller so you could eat it?
Either way seems petty to me since you had cutlery and ( I assume )opposable thumbs to hold a knife with and cut said meat into manageable chunks..... |

Re: Britannia Pub
I think it is a little unfair to say flashy is being lazy because she likes thin slices of meat as opposed to big chunks. It sounds like the chef could not be bothered to slice the meat correctly. I like a thickish slice but prefer not to have big chucks to hack up myself. Especially when I am eating out.
Do none of you have any food preferences or will you eat anything thrown at you? |
Re: Britannia Pub
agree with neil, the whole point of going out fer a meal is- they are serving YOU.n you are paying fer the privelge, i would have shoved it back in his hand n said cut that properly. still if some will put up with owt.

well you obviously have a bigger appetite than me Lindsay and are obviously able to stuff more in your mouth than i am, i expect things to be well presented as they usually are at other carvery's |

Re: Britannia Pub
The thing is the Brit has gone downhill fast over the recent years( I used to work there and was proud of the quality we got it to). I assumed the special offers it was running was because someone was trying to turn it round from its bad reputation of late. In order to do this you need to be good value but of decent quality in both food and service.
Untill I hear differently I'll give it a miss. I'm not fond of carvary's TBH anyway |
Re: Britannia Pub
i think they have lowered the price recently Ian, they have the likes of The Redcap and The Duke and Gamecock to contend with on the carvery front
i see certain members of accyweb have failed to see my point in this thread, yet again i thank you Ian for pointing out things that are valid opinions on visiting places, certain people like picking at my threads and following my around this site just to try and make me look a fool this thread was designed to give people a heads up, not so people could pick out bad points about me |
Re: Britannia Pub
I understand what Lindsay is on about Flashy .. you have the facility to cut up your own meat as desired, however, I myself, find that food tastes different if cut in a different way ... probably I could be a bit quirky but find that :-

Brings an all new meaning to "how would you like your beef sir" just take the horns off and arse:D
|
Re: Britannia Pub
This is just an example of the couldn't care less attitude of a lot of employees today. The price of the food is irrelevant as far as I'm concerned, the point is it should be served up properly. It takes no longer to slice meat correctly than lobbing a chunk off, just smacks of laziness

Re: Britannia Pub
well said Bernie
|
Re: Britannia Pub
Its the service that i`d be annoyed with...........just because something is cheap does`nt mean the service has to be poor...

Re: Britannia Pub
exactly pipples

Re: Britannia Pub
Sycamore Farm in Lowerhouse(near Rosegrove) does a cracking carvery...according to the missus who lunches out there on regular ocassions. not as cheap as some but never the less great. It is a really popular place with an excellent childrens area, we went the day after Boxing Day and the wait for a table was nearly 2hrs ( we did`nt bother) and they were lining up on the car park as we left........maybe the credit crunch hadn`t hit Burnley then........ and i`m sure if you ask them nicely they will carve the meat to match the size of your gob!!!!

Re: Britannia Pub
Britan Pub as never been the same since owd Jim (or was bill) had it, flag floors with sawdust and if you asked for a bag of crisps he'd look at the strange and just say, tha comes in here furt thale not thi bloody dinner:D
|
Re: Britannia Pub
Bill was his lad that lived in the cottages and used to come in each night for a half.
I used to enjoy working there and I think we got it to a good standard. food was good quality and reasonable price. Ale was on top form ( even the head brewer from the brewery used to tell me I kept a cracking pint). In the end I was poached by Whitbread by an area manager who used to come in for his lunch and offered me a job there and then. |

Re: Britannia Pub
I ended up at the Brit today, due to the Redcap been closed "Technical Diffs" it said. Not having time to go over the grane road,to the duke, I called in here.
Walked in and it smelt beautiful, got a beer and waited to order...time to order...2 x carvery, hostess says " no carvery we only open 2hrs during the day, to much waste" okay we settle for fish and chips. this comes 10mins later,it looked good whole hearty plate, consisting of 1/2 plate of fish 1/4 plate chips and a 1/4 plate mushy peas....ummmmmmmmmmmm well 2 bites in and the fish is cold on the inside,so went for the peas. Again they were cold, well luke warm, the chips HOT, it was 1pm so even if the food was cooked for 12pm surly they could of kept it warm for a hour??? well upon being asked if I was happy I said no and explained...the reply was do I want something else to which I declined. At that moment my guest also stated his food wasn't cooked, and as the waitress came walking by told her to remove his food. After a chat, and a beer for me coke for him. Waitress appears will a bill £3.50." I have only charged you for 1 meal" she says...due to my guest paying and me not being able to say something...I say now AVOID AT ALL COST..2pm we left, never to return |
Re: Britannia Pub
oh dear....
what a shame, once a great place to eat has fallen so far. |
Re: Britannia Pub
Oh how times change.. when I lived in Accy only posh people had cars so any pub you visited was on foot.. I remember walking up t'Shoulder n Mutton.. took me and my mate 4 hours through fields n snow....got there and it was full of bikers.... I'll never forgive my mate cos the first song he put on the jukebox was "Ben" by Micheal Jackson..talk about strange looks.:D
