World War One comes to Accrington
On Wednesday 11th March, starting at 7.30pm, a BBC journalist , Jionathan Ali, will give a talk entitled 'Our Boys' in the Peel Park pub back room. It is about the lads of Hawklshaw, near rammy, who went to war in 1914. Some returned, some didn't. He could be talking about Accrington. £3.50 a ticket includes hot pot. Retlaw, If you had read even the cover of the book I gave you -'Our Boys', then you would have heard of Jonathan Ali and Hawkshaw. At the end of his talk, the audience will have a deeper understanding of the effects of WW1 on the participants , their families and the community. In this respect, Hawkshaw was like Accrington.
What would Bill Turner have written in response to the initial posting? What would his view of your tunnel vision have been? If Bill were alive today, he would be turning over in his grave. |

Many of you will have seen some of Hawkshaw on the telly, the original krypton factor course is in Hawkshaw, which is just out of Holcolmbe (Ramsbottom) on the way to Bolton.
