St. Patrick's Day !
 

Hope you Irish out there have had a wonderful day.

No connections, except lady I work with had a shamrock on her desk, lovely card and dressed herself in orange skirt and green scarf. Grandma was cooking Irish ... some cabbage thing and, of course, the soda bread. Was waiting for the Guinness and Champagne, but didn't appear ... LOL.

Had been to church and told us about this gypsy girl dressed all in green doing Irish jigs .. even the dog they have is called Paddy.

Did feel part of the Emerald Isle for a short time.

used to have a great "St.Patricks Day" parade in Benalmadena, paris n i was at a great one there about 3 years ago. in me heavy drinking days they used to have a great one up accy con in one of the rooms, can remember getting well oiled with "Father Davies" at one of em, n telling this bird i could waltz n broke her little toe.:D

yeh he was the priest at St.Annes kate, top bloke, used to pop in the queens regular fer a few, got on with all the lads, think he was transfered cos all the owd "Matriarchs" of the parish complained to the Bishop.:( moaning owd gits, hey it wern't your toe then, cos ya would of remembered.:D;)

Hmmmm .. nah, broken me toe a few times, but not at a local hop. Besides, you were too young for me Cashy .. and would have declined your kind invitation for a waltz on the grounds of baby snatching :D

Your talking about Father John Davis cashy, was a top, top bloke, his local was the Hargreaves Arms, I'd been drinking with him for six months before I found out he was a catholic priest. The owd gits, as you called um were always on to him about drinking in pubs, his reply was you don't find sinners in Church:D He actually left the Church about 1979, he got a job running a bail hostel in Bury, on Bury Road actually, I called into see him when I was in Bury General Hospital in 1980, they used to encourage us to go for a walk when we were ready for discharge so I decided to try and find him, had good half hour in his office having a brew.

I remember Father Davies too, used to help run the youth club at St Annes too. I remember him drinking in both the Queens and Hargreaves Arms, was a big bloke (mind you everyones big to a shorty like me!!), used to like a flutter on the nags too, definately a man of the people he was, which is i think what upset the big wigs in the church, they would have preffered him to fraternise with the "better end"!:rolleyes:

I went to St Annes & St Josephs Primary School on Sandy Lane. I think Father Davies was the priest that came up to our school for masses etc. If it was him, he died while I was at primary school (mid-to-late nineties).
I just remember him for his bellowing voice and when he used to dress up as Father Christmas at our school at christmas time!

St Patricks day here today, 24 cans draught Guinness for £16 at Tesco, 67p a can :D
