Mushroom Hunt
Mushroom Hunts are very popular, we ran one a couple of years ago and people came from all round Lancashire.
Running another one on 11th September. Cost is £12.50 (or £6.50 for concessions). The cost is to cover the cost of the mushroom expert that I've had to hire, plus the cost of brunch which is included in the price. If you're interested in attending pm me to book a place. The walk begins at 10am on the 11th, meeting at the Mill Hill entrance to Foxhill Nature Reserve and then finishes with brunch at the new Civic Arts Centre. |

I've been down Newark way this weekend and in the woods near where we stayed there were loads of different kinds of mushrooms, wish I knew which ones were edible, here's a "few" pictures!

Re: Mushroom Hunt
I agree with the post about liver failure. I love seeing the mushrooms grow, BUT there are so many look alikes, be very very careful, I spent many years sorting through yellow chantrelle but still cannot tell the difference between the false ones growing in the forest. Enjoy the hunt and if you do stumble on a true Boletus Edulis , fried with lots of salt.
Boletus Edulis is a Porchini. a penny bun , cep. |

Great photos, I only know the edible ones, think the 7th is a birch bolete or a bay bolete |

Any idea what this "chocolate muffin" looking one is
http://www.accringtonweb.com/forum/a...t-_mg_0213.jpg And this one http://www.accringtonweb.com/forum/a...t-_mg_0220.jpg I got hold of to try and stand it up a bit, the only way I can think of describing the feel was jelly in a plastic bag, felt awful |

The first one looks like a birch bolete, the best way of telling first if it is the bolete family is if it is spongey underneath rather than gills which I am pretty sure this one is, the second one have never seen, so lucky you, it could be a young old man of the woods, really not sure. First thing to check is where they are growing, under what trees. Keep on with the photos |
Re: Mushroom Hunt
Thanks, cant remember having a look underneath that on so not sure, the 2nd one might be deceiving with the brown spots on it, these are actually dead petals that have fallen onto it, they were everywhere, I brushed off what I could but the rest were stuck. Never noticed what they were growing under, it was 120 mile away from here so I'll never know now, but I know to take notice next time :)
