Lily Maes cafe/bistro thing
Have got to say, I am really disappointed with this place
Went in for the first time a couple of weeks ago. Lovely decor, really nice staff, had a breakfast (cant remember which one) and fella had the same but asked for a different combination, which they were more than amenable. We were quite impressed, the food wasnt amazing but not bad at all, and we decided to make this our weekend breakfast place. However this time, missed the breakfast by minutes, so ordered seared salmon. Sounded quite interesting. It was horrible. I could feel the grease on my lips. Only had 2 mouthfuls and then waited for fella to finish his. When we went to pay at the till, she noticed the full plate, and fella explained that it was a little greasy. She automatically launched into the fact that it had only been seared and then put in the oven so it wasnt. I said it actually was, which is why there was a plate full of food left, she turned round and said that it must be the fish itself (?!). Either way, we paid and left. Wont be returning. An apology would have been nice or just a little less attitude |
Re: Lily Maes cafe/bistro thing
Been in a couple of time and just had a brew and a piece of cake, its alright but wont go out my way to go there. Last time me and me ma were in they had a work expierience girl in that took our order, had to repeat it three times but we all have to learn somewhere!!!

Food Standards Agency - What's an oily fish? |
Re: Lily Maes cafe/bistro thing
Salmon, sardines, tuna, all are oily fish, but it is the good kind omega3.

Re: Lily Maes cafe/bistro thing
A good business always allows the customer to be right.
If the customer says a fish was greasy, apologise, because it was. Arguing it wasn't, means you're unlikey to see that customer again. |
Re: Lily Maes cafe/bistro thing
Ive had Salmon plenty of times, but nothing like this. Like I say, it was greasy on my lips afterwards.
Its a shame, cos we'd thought we'd found an alternative to an asda brekkie. I may actually have to cook one at this rate ;) lol |

Yeah I know Cashy. Hadnt been in there at that point, I was referring to the managers attitude when he posted on accy web against someone else commenting on his Bistro (cafe), thought it might be slightly better in the person :)
Now the food can put me off as well :D |

Re: Lily Maes cafe/bistro thing
A complaint that walks out the door still as a complaint is told to 100 people, a compliment is told to 10.....
That was the levels we were told when I worked the restaurant trade( and that was before the T'Interweb!. |
Re: Lily Maes cafe/bistro thing
I went when it first opened it was amazing!! we used to go every friday on our lunch from work...
however I took my Area Manager and Financial Development Area there and its was appauling... I rang to complain afterwards but I was informed the owner was out... Lost a customer in me anyway!! I was nore embarassd than anything!! |
Re: Lily Maes cafe/bistro thing
We used to frequent this cafe quite a lot, but we noticed that the food was different eveytime you got it, I.e missing stuff, so one week you'd get a lasagne, it would be really good it would come with a salad, balsamic dressing and a slice of GB, but then because it would be good next week you'd order the same thing, the salad would be scraggly and no dressing?
There are only so many times you can forgive a place for lack of attention to detail, and quality afterall thats essentially what makes you come back, friendly service should be an automatic given, P.s I noticed everything was cooked in EV olive oil, even the brekky fried eggs, yak!! EV is only for salads or bread...it was rank. |
