Re: East Lancs War Weekend
Just don't go in a german uniform!
|
Re: East Lancs War Weekend
So who will the French Resistance be resisting and who will the Allies be fighting? Will the Axis troops and prisoners be naked?Or does German underwear not count as uniform and will be allowed?
How can you have a WW2 enactment with no Germans in it-or is it so the French will have a chance of winning? Imagine if all the WW2 films had all the Germans in uniform blanked out to avoid offending someone-it would make them hard to follow. PC gone mad again! |
Re: East Lancs War Weekend
The next one to suffer will be re-enactments of the War of the Roses battles - might upset the tykes:D

Re: East Lancs War Weekend
Don't agree with the reasons but what exacltly are they enacting ? From what I've seen of the history of WW2 there were no battles between Allied & german troops on British soil, just air raids.
If they are trying to recreate Britain during the war then they don't need Germans do they ? |

Re: East Lancs War Weekend
Are Italian uniforms (post 42/43 or whenever they switched sides ) allowed ? , and what about if Brit of "south asian" heritage (the ones who supported the Emporer against the Raj ) turn up in 'Jap' uniforms wearing fake buck teeth , will they be turnd away ? ..... and what about if any folks in Russian uniform turn up ? will local any Cossacks/Ukrainians be allowed to stage a protest........... hate to sound like an echo (quoting Jaysay) but this is what 13 years of Labour party indoctrination /Political correctness has brought Britain too ........ just a thought , try to imagine what "Dads Army" would have been like if it had been produced during the Blair/Brown/Harmon/Straw regime   ;)

Re: East Lancs War Weekend
If they ban ANY uniforms it should be the Aussi one where you wear baggy shorts with black socks and black shiny shoes!(see shelleaghs pictures).
Perhaps they're banning German uniforms because last year the smart dressed 'Germans' hung around outside the ladies toilets, picking up all the English women? (see photos). We can't have the Germans being 'overpaid, oversexed and over here', the Americans were enough. |
Re: East Lancs War Weekend
Perhaps it's just a republican plot, and they don't want Prince Harry pitching up in East Lancs.
:D |
Re: East Lancs War Weekend
Well, we went to Bury today on the bus and Ramsbottom was packed with people who had taken the 1940's theme to their hearts.
It was lovely to see ladies smartly dressed in their suits(although back then a suit for a lady was called a costume...if I am wrong I am sure G will put me right)complete with hats and gloves......most of them were carrying shopping baskets too. The gentlemen who were not in services uniforms also looked very smart, whether they sported a Homberg or a flat cap......they all looked like they had their gas masks. There was one little man hurrying to the station complete with his little fibreboard case. I would have loved to have stopped and spent an hour or so people watching from the gardens of the church. There are more events on tomorrow, but I will be doing the roast(sigh). |

No, you were right with suit. It was a term first used for ladies tailoring in the late nineteenth century, when it became the fashion to have separate jackets and skirts. The first rumblings of freedom of movement....and eventul emancipation. Sounds like a lovely day out. Glad someone thought to pin your address to your gaberdine, so that you found your way safely back home. :D |
Re: East Lancs War Weekend
its on monday as well margaret .. im going to have a wander down on monday .. to rawtenstall ....
|
Re: East Lancs War Weekend
Ooh Jen, I might just have a run up to Rammy then with my camera.
I even saw a lady with seamed stockings........she must've had an american friend....or perhaps it was gravy browning and eyebrow pencil :D |

you might be better off at rawtenstall or bury on monday rather than rammy ... rammy has most of their events on the sunday ... |
Re: East Lancs War Weekend
Oh Bums....was going to look at the shops there too!
The folk who were dressed in 1940's gear looked very good, and Rammy's main street is in keeping with that era too(well, except for the Curry house)......lots of little independent shops. Might have to rethink my plans then Jen. I did look at the attached program of events......just didn't click that most of the stuff at Rammy is tomorrow! There wasn't much evidence of the 1940's weekend in Bury......though we didn't venture down by the railway. |

Re: East Lancs War Weekend
The funniest thing I saw a couple of years ago when I visited the event was the sight of four men dressed as German SS men strutting up and down. The other soldiers from our side including the Yanks were chatting away very matey like.
What amused me though was that two of the SS chaps were coloured lads. Was that a bit of mickey taking I wondered. |

As the original comment was about coloured troops. I'd just like to point out the Germans raised the DAL (Deutsche Arab Lehrabteilung) in North Africa with volunteers from Iraq, Palestine, Syria & North Africa, amongst these would certainly have been "Black Troops". Added to that there was also an Indian SS Legion. I suppose if further time was given over to searching many such anomalies can be found regarding the perceived views of Nazi Germany & their use of non Aryan peoples to fuel their war machine. Re: East Lancs War Weekend
Lovely Wadey.
And despite the privations of the war, weren't the ladies elegant? Marina Mae certainly capture the essence of the 40's....she is beautiful ib both of those pictures. |
Re: East Lancs War Weekend
Oh, I should have complimenteed the men too.......they were well turned out and handsome...not a trainer or a T-shirt in sight.
The men in uniform......WOW, no wonder the ladies of the day swooned! |

Guess its not the sort of thing you should really ask your old grannies about though   |
Re: East Lancs War Weekend
I don't think my old grannies would have been part of that scene....one of them has been dead for 55years the other for 40 years........and the uniforms I was talking about were the Naval and RAF uniforms and the young chaps in them, over the last weekend.
OK, I know these guys were just pretending...but if the real thing was anything like the fake........oh, never mind. |
Re: East Lancs War Weekend
Have a cold shower !
Joking aside Marina is a lovely girl, she's just finished her A levels and was invited to Jersey as part of the Royal Wedding celebrations, I think her next day off is November |
