As I don't recall seeing you there Less you can hardly expect your defence of the evening to be valid. It's as plain as your face you're just creeping around Mick. And as it's supposed to be an open forum where all are welcome I don't think its a good idea to promote Mick as a leader of a 'Clique'

I don't have any qualms whatsoever about the great Job he does on Accy web. It's just that I think on this occasion the splitting of the group spoilt it for me personally. I thought a forum was about expression of free speech, within reason. I meant no offence and intended none. A little understanding from the non smoker's point of view might warrant some commiseration.

I didn't ask you to defend Mick, Derek. You were the only one I thought had given any consideration to the non smokers by your comment, which I quoted. Perhaps you were worried you might be implicated because I quoted your concern that I did think was genuine at the time. I can't believe you are now saying
Quote:

There were also a few comments about the fact the meet was divided, seemed to me that most of the smokers felt a tad selfish and ignorant, though I'm not sure why
Talk about runnin' with the hare and huntin' with the hounds

Your points 1 - 3 I fully concur with, Mick. However, you may have wandered in to the non smokers inside, but as I said, you didn't do so before Atarah and myself had left. You'll recall we came and said our goodbyes to y'all before we left. If the meet was at another venue the smokers would have gone out for a smoke and returned to join the rest of the crew inside but because of the Railway's facilities it seemed easier for you to stay put. If the 'Selfish' thought crossed someone's mind just maybe there was a tad of it about. Shame because it was great to meet up with you all, for the short time it lasted in the Arden :(

Thanks for that Cashman, nice to meet you as well :tongueout

I was a smoker myself and I know there can be nowt so self righteous as a former smoker but in this case it has nowt to do with that. When I was a smoker I would go outside, have a toot and come back in and join the rest of the gang. I wouldn't dream of going out with my non smoking friends and decide after the night got underway to sit in a separate room from them. Can't see why y'all can't see my point and that's as bad, if not worse than defending what really was an error of judgment. A forum is supposed to be 'Inclusive' not 'Exclusive'. No cliques, no favourites, just one big family where everyone is appreciated :)

OK I'm done whinging :dummy2:

Oops I was wrong for making my comment about you being a bit daft.
I should have said you are talking rubbish.
Have you stopped to think that just maybe those outside stopped outside because you were inside?:D

Good because you appear to be an expert at it.

I think you owe Mick an apology for suggesting he in some way spoilt the night just because he was sat outside.
Maybe your should have come bowling instead of the going to the meet with me, Rhonda and the kids. We had 4 children with us, one more would not have been a problem.

Just to add a note it was not me that picked the Venue ie the Arden it was another Accyweb member.
I do not pick the Venues now i make suggestions for meets but the members make requests too and after the venue is sorted i sort the rest out.

Well gotta put my 2 pennyworth in here.....there was plenty of room outside if anyone had chosen to join us, as was said there were more members outside than in.......and if anyone doesn't want to be a passive smoker then stay inside and stop whinging.....rant over :D

Nor did you see me at the first or any of the regular monthly meets that were held, but I was there where were you? If I'm busy on the night of a meet I don't turn up, simple as. My defence of Mick against a whiner such as you should not be necessary but the world like you and I isn't perfect.
I'm sure given the first chance you are the type of person that would want to join a 'clique', no doubt as moral leader.

It is hardly Micks fault that Government legislation says smokers have to sit outside.

there are plenty of threads about the smoking ban, find one and beat your drum as much as you like, don't go moaning at Mick just because you couldn't be bothered to nip outside to talk even for just a few minutes.
Quote:

If the 'Selfish' thought crossed someone's mind just maybe there was a tad of it about.

More than a 'tad', you are enjoying your own bout of selfishness and using it to beat up Mick who never causes harm or discomfort for anyone.

I don't think you became self righteous after giving up smoking, I think you served an apprenticeship in it, well now you can stop your overqualified.

Quote:

I wouldn't dream of going out with my non smoking friends and decide after the night got underway to sit in a separate room from them.
Before the smoking ban this wasn't a problem, but it isn't a problem the smokers created so don't blame them for stopping outside, they don't blame the non smokers for stopping inside, though there are usually a few non smokers that also sit with the smokers they claim it's a better atmosphere, (strange that isn't it?).

Quote:

Can't see why y'all can't see my point and that's as bad, if not worse than defending what really was an error of judgment.

We can see your point, what you can't see is that it's neither the smokers or the non smokers fault, we have been split by legislation.

Quote:

A forum is supposed to be 'Inclusive' not 'Exclusive'. No cliques, no favourites, just one big family where everyone is appreciated :)
Don't talk wet a forum isn't a family, it is a group of people that discuss and exchange views sometimes we agree and other times the arguments get heated.

As for inclusive, the effort you put in makes you inclusive, sitting at your keyboard and moaning about being excluded gets you what you deserve.

I notice you have already been told about the 'clique' being a long standing joke, I just wonder, how did I know you would raise to the bait?

Usual and fully expected sort of response.

Don't give up so easily just change your tactics, get to know the people you are in such a rush to condemn.

Don't expect us just to accept you, work on becoming a useful and informative member of the site.

But don't ever, ever pick on Mick, being an Administrator makes him an easy target, it's difficult for him to defend himself against ill thought out criticism. However he will always be defended against such unworthy comments.

Now perhaps after you have read this you can go away for a short while, have a sulk, think about it and come back with a more positive attitude towards your fellow members?
:)

By the way I'm meeting Mick in the last orders this afternoon if you have the time or inclination to apologise, at the same time you might find I'm not as nasty as you have made me appear, (I'm worse).:D

i was one of the smokers that stayed outside all night .. so was spugs .. tho he went inside a few times :D:D:D... anyway as where i was sat there was only one tv facing me .. just like at home ..... too many tv's are a bit scary for me as i do have orders to stay at least 6ft away from one .... and in fact you can count the spugster for having to stay 6ft away from them as well .. and i think if i had stayed inside i would have had a few problems at staying 6ft away from one ....

I'm sorry but,

It's not that all of the cliques on accyweb are full, in fact we desperately need new blood to prevent interbreeding within our cliques, however you won't be invited, you need to put yourself forward.

You really do have to prove yourself as obnoxious, selfish and that nobodies opinion matters more than your own, then, once we have, (if you're lucky) ignored you or perhaps because what you put in your posts is actually factual, work towards having you banned, then you might be considered, but only if, and it's a big if, you have no sense of humour.

I almost made it into Jaysays clique but my spelling was deemed to be too accurate.

Glad I didn't turn up, I'd have felt pretty miffed if half the gathering was outside cultivating lung cancer. Smoking is anti-social, smoking and sitting ouside away from the rest of the people you are supposed to be meeting is even more anti-social. There's my opinion, and I'm deffo not in the "clique"

Re: Accyweb Meet

The smokers were socialising amongst themselves, there were more smokers than none smokers, somebody (a non smoker) already stated that they could smell the smoke on their clothes even though they were insdoors, so they may as well have been outside. Is staying indoors, away from the majority of the persons present not anti social then? or does that only apply to smokers who stayed outside? Because Im certain the majority would not have minded the minority joining them in the fresh air. :D

Re: Accyweb Meet

Myself and Ian did have every intention of sitting outside with the smokers, but got chatting with Barrie, Littlepom and Stuart. Before we knew it, it was time to go home to let the babysitter go. Whilst it's not nice as a non smoker going home with your clothes smelling of smoke, I grew up in a household with both my parents being smokers, so it doesn't really bother me as much as it could others.

It was nice to see everyone again, but I don't think any of the meets will ever be the same as those that we used to hold at the Stag.

How's about we have accyweb meets for smokers and non-smokers on different dates and at different venues???? Then maybe we compare how well attended or not as the case may each meet is:rolleyes:.
It seems to me that accyweb meets are on the decline and the ones making most noise about it are the ones that very rarely/never attend.

Was going to cheekily post something similar, but thought better of it, seeing as I couldn't go.

If I had, being the social butterfly that I am, I'd have flown hither and thither, but be mainly where I'd be most likely to have a good laugh.

As a smoker the Railway sounds ok-ish. Though I've never been. Neither inside nor out.

Thinking about it, the only meet I've been to since the smoking ban has been introduced, was a Christmas do at the Queens in Church.

Not much of a split that night.

Seeing as the smoking area was a tiny back-yard, accessed via the mens' bogs, and it was cold enough to freeze the angel hair off your seasonal baubles.

At the great meets I remember with fondness, there were no serious thread based discussions, no splits, no post-mortem bitchin', they were quite simply, just really good...
FUN!

Well unfortunately I've never been to a meet, much as I'd like to, but I would have thought the idea of these meets were for members to get together have a face to face chat (by the way was Bee there:rolleyes:) and as Rindi as said have fun, lets face it members can fall out day in day out on line, no need to do it at a meet:D:D

I seem to recall Bernie was probably the nearest to have spent equal time both inside and outside.

I am going to put my pennyworth in now .........as far as this last meet went i found it was ok a good turn out & a chat here & there, yes the smoking ban has contributed to "split" meets, but i think that the meets are to get to know the people who you are chatting & mabe disagreeing with online its up to the individuals to mix, as far as the venue's are concerned it has got harder & harder to find a good place for a meet up believe me i know:rolleyes:
mick & i used to check out all venues for each meet ( mick to check on the "refreshments" & myself the layout). meets will never be the same as the stag ones that was "accywebs" home. i just wish all this backbiting & nitpicking was put on the back burner (left alone ) & mabe get your heads together & sort out if you would like another meet or not, its always been up to the members to agree where & when, with mick & myself as referee's.

sorry i had to go home early but the lights & telly's were effecting the infection in my eye otherwise i would have stayed till the end. ..........mez

Mez, you are right.
I think it is very easy to criticise an event when you haven't had to put the work into organising it. And I know such events do take some organising.
I haven't been to any of the meets, but I am sure I would be happy to mix with both groups of people...to get to know them.

Can't be 100% sure he doesn't, just don't ever recollect him being out in the smoking shelters. Suppose if we do a search, he will have had an opinion on it somewhere on here. LOL. Whichever though .. you will have to go in one room or t'other if he is there ... :D

I really don't have any problem with people smoking, my dads done it for over 40 years but I am not prepared to sit in a shed outside a pub freezing my nips off just to listen to the conversation of the smokers. Sorry , life is too short and it's not exactly Barbados out there!

I smoke, I drink and I gamble. I've even been known to spend a few bob on loose women. Any change I've left after that lot, I just waste away.

You say the Railway's full of screens?

Live web cam feeds!

Uniting both North and South Korea...whoops, the Inies and the Outies.

Job's a good un.

:D

Mick 22-08-2011 05:38

Re: Accyweb Meet

The reason there was a split was that the smoke area in the Railway is so big and it was warm and has heaters if needed.
Picking the Railway was a spur of the moment decision taken by all after the seating and beer crisis at the Arden.
most of the pubs have small smoking areas and smokers just nip out have a fag then go back to the group.
I think the next meet should be in the Sydney st club again as everyone had a good time and all stayed together.
but don't think there will be another meet till the usual Christmas meet in about 18 weeks:D
which gives members time so sort out babysitters.:p:D
