Commercial Pub Accrington Friday food review

Me and the other half went for a drink and a bite to eat last night and both went for sirloin steaks, at 8.99 thought not bad with a free pint thrown in. yummy one of the best steaks i have eaten, and i was a butcher for 5 years. Steak came with chips and a salad which was ok and we shared onion rings and a pepper sauce that at 1.49 was again good value.
The only down side was there was no real ciders on, the bartender said they had some on a new delivery but wouldn't be on sale until tomorrow. A little upsetting but the strongbow was ok and the steak made up for it.
I like what they did to the old place and the information on the walls was for interesting reading on way to and from the ablusion huts.
All in all a nice evening and i would go again.

Is this what you were eating, Matt?

The (somewhat unpalatable) truth about your bank holiday steak | Mail Online

Yet another reason to stay well clear of JD's dive bars.

Thank you Tealeaf for that informative link.
It confirms to me that it is wise, when dining out, to choose lamb - it eats grass and it isn't practical to rear it in sheds.

Re: Commercial Pub Accrington Friday food review

We had a what can only be termed a "negative" experience there on Sat afternoon, food ordered for the 3 of us at 12:30, no sign of said food by 13:30, went to bar, produced receipt (whilst getting another round of drinks), barperson looked rather alarmed and scurried off to "check" on the order, she came back and assured me that it would be with us "in 2 minutes". 20 mins later, still no food, so I stopped a passing barstaff type and asked her, she then said "did you say table 119 when you ordered? " Err yes cos that what it says on the table... " ah , we've taken the food to table 19 and no-one wanted it" (twice) Brilliant.
Food finally arrived, same barperson ( who actually was really nice and about the only person who actually cared) then said "you can have free drinks, what would you like? "
She took the order and when she passed by again some 20 mins later was aghast the the free drinks to make up for the crap service had also been forgotten.... she then got them herself and was hugely apologetic.

***The food , when it arrived, was really nice but at the same time the pub had also run out of lemonade and toilet roll, logistics wise, my cat could do a better job ******

It's back to the Calder for me after that experience, much as I like a beer garden I am a bigger fan of customer service!

I really like the decor and the beer garden, it's a nice way to while away a couple of hours in the afternoon in there with a glass or two of their pinot which is palatable enough, as for the food it is what it is, ok for a lunch but far from a fine dining experience!
As for Matt Shaw's comments, I'm sure his steak was fine, perhaps an excess of Strongbow made him exagerrate!

I thought I'd let people know that I was talking to Matt Shaw at the weekend (he's my son) and he told me that he went back to Wetherspoons for another fine dining steak experience last week - he said it was the worst steak he'd ever had!
I expect my previous comment about excess Strongbow consumption was right!
