Grandmaster flash live in accrington

Hi people, Now this may not be for some of you however for the older generation out their this maybe something that you may want to see.

I have booked Grandmaster Flash to DJ live at Level One, Grandmaster had a huge number of hits in the 80s with The Message, White Lines, Wokred with Blondie on her hits as well back in the day.

He has collabarated with some of the biggest names in the buisness, and in 2012 he will be receiving a grammy for his contribution to music and also going in the grammy hall of fame.

He is performing live at Level One on Saturday 4th February 2012, He will be on stage at 9.30pm till 11.30pm, we did it early so people can come in at 8pm have a good night with friends and then go home early doors if they like.

Tickets are £10.00 from the club, we have already sold over 100 so far and thats mainly to the shifters reunion people, so be great to see some of you down, This is a really big thing for the town as not many grammy award winning artistes appear in the town so i think its something to be proud for the town that we managed to get him to Accrington.

If it not your thing no worries but please dont turn this into one of those do everything down threads which happens at times.

If you want a ticket please let me know

No wonder the town is going down hill fast when this sort of garbage becomes a main attraction.

See this is what i dont get, Grammy award winning artist the guy changed the face of DJing and invented the cue button on all mixing desks used world wide for years and known as the king of hip hop and its deemed garbage.... My point on the post when i started lets not turn this into another do the town scenario, within what 4 posts there it is.

Just frustrates me that when so much effort is put in getting these people into the town a famous name theres always someone waiting to do it down, you know what the problem is too many people doing their own town down and not being proud of it thats the problem

I think that perhaps most of those who remember this guy will be past clubbing it, and probably into more sedate leisure activities...either that or busy trying to bring up a family..

It wouldn't be to my taste...he didn't float my boat back in the 80's....but I guess if you get some of the young folk interested in the music...after all it will be 'new' to them.

I have heard of him, but he was never a favourite of mine.....when he was popular I would have been in my late thirties, I had sort of grown out of pop music(if that is what you want to call it)my interests were invested in other more important things.

As there's a bit of an 80's revival vibe going on at the moment, I think this gig might do well - plus Mr Flash seems to be an icon in rap circles.

A couple of weeks ago I went to see Fish (former singer with Marillion) in Darwen, the gig was sold out...people came from miles around to see him - I know this because Fish did a kind of Q&A session between songs and by speaking to people after the gig.

I don't like rap music much, but reckon that fans of the genre will flock to see him.

Lets get this straight, shall we.

Music is about 1-2-3-4 or however many people playing an instument with some skill or perhaps using their their vocal chords to produce something which at the least, is pleasant to experiance and at best is a moment to appreciate, to imagine and to wonder.

What music is certainly not is some plonker playing with a few buttons, scratching a few bits of plastic and shouting over an amplified microphone to produce the sort of din I can get with a kango from the local tool hire shop.

So go and stick your Grandmaster right up where a sheet of the lavatory roll goes.

Hmmmm....... not sure i want to get into this debate all i will say is GRAMMY AWARD WINNING ARTIST...... ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME............ I dont think you get those accolades from just playing records, whos one of the biggest artistes at the moment DAVID GUETTA who is also just DJ, Grandmaster created the tracks he didnt just sit there and do a bit of scratching, Im not saying its everyones cup of tea but its a coup, I have BASSHUNTER on in January at Level One which is another major coup however if i put Basshunter id be getting my ear chewed off here lol

Absolute crap...Alan Freed's in the Rock & Roll hall of Fame and he just played records...although the records he played were brilliant, unlike this character you're inflicting on Accy. Personally, I think the cops should wait at the borough boundary and bar him from entering for offences against good music. Still, I'm sure there'll be plenty of dingbats who'll hand over their dosh for this garbage.

Just out of interest, Wyn, is there anywhere in Accy now where it is possible to go and see live musicians who are playing without the assistance of a karaoke machine or some similar apparatus? That excludes the WMC’s with their third rate singalong Saturday night idiots.

Think Stanley Street may have some live music on, Mr T. Steve2qec's yer man who has his finger on the pulse of the Accy gig scene.

Think there's a band on at Whittaker's Arms this weekend.
The Victoria on Manchester Road has bands on sometimes, in fact we were meant to play there this Saturday but our drummer's done a bunk. Don't know if the landlord's got anyone else.
Hope & Anchor was always my fave venue in Accy.
But there are a lot of backing track singers out there...

Bohemia formerly the attic has live musicians every thursday friday and saturday, but that would mean that you would have to venture into the town centre and probably something that non of you have done for quite a while lol.... Seeing as Stanley Street is that late night party venue for a few people on here lol

Good record, and one that always got us on the dance floor at the State Ballroom, way back when. In fact I think I have it on 12''.

However...

'When originally released on Sugarhill, the record was credited to Grandmaster & Melle Mel (some international issues even credited Grandmaster Flash & Melle Mel). This was done to mislead the general public into believing that Grandmaster Flash participated on the record, when in fact he played no part and had already left the Sugar Hill Records label the previous year.'

Nice work getting a well-known act into Accy Leon. I'm not a fan myself but I can appreciate that it's good for local nightlife. Sounds like it's already turning out to be a successful event. Good on you.

Ignore the naysayers. They're the same people who complain that the town centre is declining and doesn't attract enough people. Can't please some folk.

Groove sees that some of Accywebs members have no appreciation for any culture that is not to their liking...A worldwide known artist has agreed to come to the town and all they can do is utter the usual 'eee ya can't whistle to it, its just noise etc etc'...Groove thinks you old fuddy duddys should keep your bingo hall rhetoric to yourselves and not come on a thread simply to knock it. The thread starter politely asked this not be turned into critical thread. Incidentally Groove is'nt a fan of rap but thinks this is not the thread to air his musical tastes.

A lot of old diehards love things like "Rock Around the Clock" and so on but they don't realise that music moves on and represents the times we live in - Grandmaster Flash's music was about life at the time - just as Rock Around the Clock was about what was going on in the 50's - it all has it's relevance. A lot of music today is based on what people like Grandmaster Flash did back in the early 80's. Basically X-factor music is like the dross of all time music - it's the dregs at the bottom of the barrel based on previous music that was better. Ask yourself how many X-factor contestants winners or otherwise have written one classic song? The answer is None! Because they are all copyists and fakers!

Groove agrees with Mr.Kestrel entirely on this subject. Groove now sees that Leona Lewis has cover nine inch nails/johnny cash classic ' Hurt'.....Groove believes that Louis Walsh and Simon Cowell have commited serious crimes against culture and should be shot.

Rap today isn't the same as it was back in the early 80's - it's basically the difference between Jailhouse Rock and Bon Jovi - same style, ie rock music but the latter has lost the original quality. To use another analogy the blues music of the 30's is different to white blues that came out of it later years.

Scratching and DJing was a cultural change in the 70's and early 80's that was the for-runner of the majority of studio techniques used today in the recording of all kinds of popular music. Which then went into sampling and so on. Rap, scratching and Hip-hop was a cultural event that came out of New York and was bloody darn excellent back in the day...

Ticket to ride, white line highway.

Tell all your friends, they can go my way.

Pay your toll, sell your soul.

Pound for pound costs more than gold.

Hope that helps with pricing.

:D

The longer you stay, the more you pay
My white lines go a long way
Either up your nose or through your vein
With nothing to gain except killing your brain
Thats the one classic 80's

Great minds....it was great song to dance to back then, really groundbreaking and risky for it's time. Seems quite tame by todays standards.

Is that Lee Bowery in your avatar?

Yeh that song brings back memories of it's subject matter! ;)
