Who say's this is advertising? I've seen better artwork on the back of the of gent's bog door at ASDA. I suggest "Country Club" has a stroll up to Haworth Art Gallery on wedesday and then pay 50p for a decent Graffiti course..he may then be able to put togeather a decent poster.

As for the event itself, if you think anyone on the Accyweb would be even remotely interested in spending good money on this peurile garbage, then I suggest you see a psychiatrist, free, on the NHS.

But we can fault him for the content, Although by splitting hairs he has been able to show that advertising events IS allowed, he should appreciate that the cost of an advert that size in any Commercial sense would be Astronomical & that when Roy stated that advertising events was allowed, He would have expected the person doing the advert to keep it Small.
Perhaps if this person would like to continue advertising on this site he would be willing to donate say £100.00p to the running of the site, this will still be very cheap in comparison to a full page advert in The Observer for example, otherwise perhaps he could do the decent thing & reduce it to just a couple of lines that could then be added to Up & coming Events.

these people are trying to breath a bit of life back into the town by organising such events and all anyone seems to want to do is whinge and moan about him putting and advert on the site..grow up. Fair enough it isnt to everyones taste but at least there trying to do something about the demise of the town centre.
I attended the first 'Belief' event on saturday and had one of the best nites iv had down there in a while..so carry on lads.
The Bees Knees have even come up with northen soul nites for the older generation..so there tryin to think of everyone young and old.
And as to regards to the 'Graffiti' posters..just go and have a look round town and you'll see a lot worse plastered up on empty shopwindows and such places.

Everyone has there own opinion..but dont give them grief for tryin to make a success of it..whatever means of advertising they do..

I have no wish to prevent them from succeeding in their enterprise in fact I hope they have a very good & well attended evening, if that is the sort of thing that is wanted.

What I do object to is a Commercial enterprise taking advantage & riding on the preverbial Coat Tails of a successful & free enterprise that is run on a shoe string, WITHOUT them contributing to either content of the site or in a monetary manner.

Some of our members who will be going to this event probably already knew about it anyway. It has been discussed in another thread. I prefer Voodoo to Opium, but I know lots of people like to go to stuff like this. Personally I think you can't beat an Accy web night out for a good laugh, conversation and enormous bar bill.:D

"Breath a bit of life back into the town"...Tell me you're not being serious. It is this sort of event that is killing the town. If you want to partake in this rubbish, then I respectfully suggest that you leg it to a site outside of town, preferably alongside the M65 so that at least there is a chance that as you stagger around in your ectasy-fuelled haze you rendevous with some overladen french artic.

The fact is the majority of people in Accy/Church/Ossy are sick and tired of Accy town Centre being a no-go zone on weekend evenings, all due to this type of event, music and establishment. If you do decide to take the risk and enter at your own peril, then you have the choice; keep your eyes down watching the pavement to avoid wading through one of the multitude of vomit pools or worse, breaking your leg on yet another discarded piece of cat food known as the Doner Kebab. Alternatively, run the risk and keep your head up only to be accosted by a bunch of drunken lads/ladettes shouting "what you looking at mate...you want your f****** head kicked in..."

It's time we shut the lot down....Oasis,Bees Knees (especially that dump)), Regency etc,etc, and reverted to the sort of civilised evening entertainment that the people of Accy, Church, Ossy, deserve.

I have to disagree with statement. What "they" and the management of town centre pubs are trying to do is operate a business, to make money, "they" couldn't care care less about the state of the town centre and I think it is naive to pretend otherwise.

Whilst I agree with Less, Tealeaf, A-Bob and Mez. The enterprising soul who put the advertisement (for that's what it really is) on the site, was (tongue in cheek) interpreting the site rules to his own benefit. That's enterprise and points out a hole in the site rules which need to be tightened regarding advertising of local events.

If this place on Willow St., can pay artists (and I use that word loosely), then they can pay for advertising (it's tax deductable!), or are they just trying to screw as much money out of the place as possible?

Down town Accy is a hell hole and likely to get worse, and such events (whilst wanted by most of the young 'uns) only makes the place worse for a large percentage of the people of Accy. If we had an ever present, visible, and large police force who ensured that the "Yobs" (could be anybodys son or daughter), knew that they couldn't mess with the cops or get away with anything illegal however minor. Then the culture of people being attacked and nearly kicked to death would soon stop.

Unfortunately society is currently only interested in profit...and what we see clearly reflects that.

So to breath life in the town (the breath of life is usless to a dead town)or advertise your wares (for profit) on this site...a commercial transaction is required (pay up lad). I hope Roy is able to amend the site rules to ensure all events advertised (free)on site are charitable ones, and should go through either him or a moderator first.

Top DJs set to boost nightlife


NIGHTLIFE in Accrington is set to get a major boost from a series of special parties featuring top DJs and artistes.

Bosses at Opium and the Bees Knees are pulling out all the stops to breathe new life into the town.

It follows comments during a council meeting that Accrington’s nightlife was "dying on its feet", when it was claimed people were snubbing local pubs and clubs for cheap supermarket booze and nights out in neighbouring towns.

Now, in a bid to tackle the problem, Opium is set to launch a new night featuring some of the country’s leading DJs. Dubbed Belief at Opium, the event kicks off on Saturday night with top spinners Brandon Block and Alex P on the decks. Entry is £6 before 11pm and £8 afterwards.

Other DJs being lined up include Alison Limmerick (27 October), K-Klass (6 November) and John Kelly (13 November).

Talks are also taking place to book ace jocks Tall Paul, Judge Jules and Lisa Loud. The club is also launching a classics night on the third Saturday of every month.

Next week the Observer will run a fantastic competition for four people to get full VIP treatment, with champagne and a ride in a limo to the club.

A Belief spokesman said: "We want to build it up and get people talking about Accrington again.

"The more people we can attract into town, the more vibrant it can become. It is about working together as a whole team.

"We will be having meetings with other bars to get an interaction going and look at ideas such as special offers.

"We would like people to put messages on our website, which will also feature charts, tracks and photos."

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, the Bees Knees kicks off the first of its eagerly-awaited Northern Soul nights featuring legendary Wigan Casino Roadshow founder Russ Winstanley.

Boss Ross Freedman said: "Our daytime customers say they don’t come out at night as there is nothing for the older generation, so we want to redress the balance.

"Trade in Accrington has been going through a flat period but I think people are getting themselves sorted financially for the Christmas period.

"We are offering something different to the usual dance scene."

I quite agree John. It also amazes me that some people never seem to know when to stop. Bit of a come down from Wigan Casino to Accy's Bees Knees.

The other thing that I find truly depressing about the whole business is that, given the inherent creativity in the People of this area, imitating what everyone else is doing is the only thing that town centre pubs can come up with to drum up trade. What about creating startlingly new trends rather than slavishly following everyone else? Are our young people so unsure of themselves?

Mmm I don't know perhaps he was - that is one angle I never considered? Or was that Pill he took in the bathroom actually an Acid Tab? and thus the rest of the film was a trip!

By the way K-Klass are a group fronted by a female vocalist, they had some chart hits in the early 90's,a few years before Prodigy became a Firestarter!

Don't know if I would go and see them - I 'm not in Accy now.

Didn't know there was a D D book,is it the same story or another?

I see they have the Directors cut out with 10mins of extra footage havn't seen it yet though!

yeah it sucks cuz a few weeks ago i bought the normal dvd version!

I belive it is something to do with a Nightclub in Accrington called Opium. By reading the previous threads and absorbing the information i am able to suggest it relates to a dance act who go by the name ok K-Klass, who are apparently due to perform on stage at said nightclub this Saturday.
