National Dialect Day

This year's National Dialect Day is on Saturday 20th October. I'm not aware of anything going on in Lancashire as yet, though there will be a major event in Morpeth, Northumberland at which members of The Lancashire Society will be taking part. Give the society a coat of looking at via Google

Glad to know there's such a day, Bob! I fear the Lancashire Dialect is dying out and that there are fewer and fewer people who understand it! Please let us know if anything is happening in Lancashire!

Re: National Dialect Day

A few years back a young man asked on this forum for volunteers in specific age groups to participate in his research into dialect.

I volunteered and I know Retlaw did. The interview lasted about an hour. He was armed with a laptop and recording gear to record how we pronounced specific words.

The research was a university project.

I am not aware of anything happening in Lancashire on that day. However, Lancashire Daty is coming up - Tuesday 27th November. I will post something around the start of the month.
