Did we not have a thread not so long ago in regard to our friend Mr Voltaire and his wee Dictum? If I remember correctly I think we had a Photo of the Frenchman and a profile.

As Voltaire isn't running the forum then why is he being quoted... Free speech doesn't exist in real life.. never has and doubtfull ever will...Not on accyweb and not out there in the big bad world.... Quoting Voltaire wont make it happen.

Wake up and smell the coffee people.. There has never been free speech ever in the history of mankind.

Yes, freedom of speech is important. I disagree with a number of people on this site and they disagree with me but we have reasonable debates about things and that's that. If you look at the Panopticons for example, I have never once said that you shouldn't be allowed to air your views. I also understand that many people will question the funding issue and they are right to do so - you have the right to know if public money is spent on things, after all, it is your money.

But, if I was walking down the street and someone made an unprovoked attack on me with a baseball bat I'm pretty sure you would think it was out of line. What happened on here the other day was the verbal equivalent of that and of course I wasn't going to stand for it.

I want to draw a line under the incident and forget about it. I'm going to take a break from posting on this site for a few weeks, I think it might be best for now.

I don’t think there’s any reason to stop posting Gayle. It would be a sad loss to the site if you did. But you’re not on your own for thinking that way I’m sure. People do withdraw on occasion I’ve done it myself, some feel forced into it, others feel that they’ve done something wrong and refrain out of embarrassment. Others just make prats of themselves…………So what’s your particular issue? A malicious assault, someone’s had a go at you which you believed wasn’t warranted, this is a fact of life when dealing with paper friends, anonymity in the form of a silly name that no one knows who they really are or the knowledge that some members feel they can say what they want with impunity and not be challenged because of who they are. There are some….it is just like real life in some context and the outcomes are the same “IF YOU RUN AWAY THE BULLIES WIN”.

I hope you come back posting soon Gayle, I for one have enjoyed your input, which has been about serious and sometimes fun issues.

Can I just ask why was this thread moved from General Chat to Anything Goes? It seems as sensible a thread, and more so than some in there?

hiya , 1) owd bert is an accy webber of old , one of the first with his wonderful photo quizzes, he stayed away for quite awhile ( i missed his quizzes, as i missed him ) but he is gradually coming back on, GREAT IM PLEASED TO SEE HIS POSTINGS.

2) gayle don't give in, some people do, & i think its a waste of the talents that people have, i for one DO ENJOY your postings, even though i may not reply to them, so do not stay off completly, do as i do, im picky, will only post where i want to, & hope not to get in trouble.he he im a coward .
