If your best friend or hubby/wife told you a secret and told you never to tell anyone else, would you be able to keep the secret??

My opinion, secrets are secrets, and never do you tell anyone these secrets.
Over the years I have been told secrets, but never ever will i repeat them to gain one over on someone, it's just not my style.

When a friend asks to tell me a secret, I always beg them NOT to tell me please, cause can't promise that I could keep it until I knew what it was if you understand me.

If a friend ever asked me to keep a secret I know i could keep it, even if it was a bad secret. Maybe I am wrong but that is what friends are for!!

A secret is a secret full stop. To tell another person something that someone has confided in you, ESPECIALLY when the person who's secret you hold means a lot to you whether it be a partner or friend, is pure betrayal of trust!

I couldn't put it better myself tinks. If someone has trusted you with a secret, that in my book means a awful lot and never EVER do you betray that trust.

I always keep a secret.
That's why I get the world and there troubles.
Well, the world's a bit of an exaduration.
But some times it feels like that.

I know that feeling..........people tell me their secrets because they know it never goes any further.

But I would be mortified if I told anyone a secret then heard it back again!!!!! that is just down right EVIL..........specially when it could cause trouble between another COUPLE of people, I actually think that, that is vindictive

I also think your right, but all to often the burden of secrets leads to friend falling out. Can I ask, If a friend told you a secret that would eventually lead to the end of a relationship or put another at risk would you still keep it?

I tend to tell Chris most things that I get told only because if I kept it in it would burst out of me. I trust him implicitly so it gets it out of my system by telling him.

But if someone actually said, before telling me something 'this is a secret' then I wouldn't even tell Chris.

Lol doug, if i thought it would end a relationship or put someone at risk...I think even better you keep the secret.
People do things in life that they regret. Imagine after 4 years...yes 4 years, someone tells your secret, the person being a "a good friend" and ends your relationship. NO!!!! secrets are secrets for life, not just for christmas!!!!!:mad:

A secret is a secret. If that person trusts you enough to tell you in the first place then I would NEVER betray that trust regardless of reasons!

If your best friend at work came to you and said can I tell you a secret, then tells you he/she get money each week off one of your residents and was planning to ask for more, would you still keep to your principles.

Hurting vulnerable people such as the elderly is a ******* trick I agree doug and the word WHISTLEBLOWING comes to mind.

But the meaning a secret in the open world, between two people that are totally sane and knew what they were doing I meant. The secret that could mean other peoples world could shatter if the secret be told.

Lets say for instance, you had four friends, and one of them four friends had a affair 5 years ago, but, you have just found out!! would you after 5 years divulge this secret that you was told from your wife/husband/friend??

My thoughts are..........it was SO long ago that no way would you break a happy couple up now after SO long!!!!!

Would it be worth it?? no way.

I would most definately be questioning the persons motive for wanting to hurt the people, what is too be achieved by telling people the secret? It smacks of spite and vindictivness to me!

So I guess we all agree!!!! a secret will always be a secret, no-one should ever, EVER break a secret.............when a secret is told, it should be taken with respect and honour for the person that told it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yes a secret is a secret, and I would be devasted if someone let me down.

There are certain circumstances tho when you have to use your discretion and break a confidence/secret for example, if someone's safety or health were seriously implicated.

I do know someone tho who cannot keep a secret, she's horrendous I wouldn't tell her the time!!
