Given the way it's gone so far, I agree!

Here's something positive. As part of the activities of my Kiwanis Club, we helped some folks have a better Christmas by ringing the bells at the Salvation Army's holiday collection kettles today. Spent four hours myself and had a great time. Beautiful weather, too, which made it even better!

Thanks for doing the bell ringing Billcat. I've always taught me kids to never pass the kettle without putting something in. The Salvation Army is such a great charity.

As far as positive the weather today was absolutely gorgeous. ~60 degrees and sunny. Got the truck and cars washed and waxed. Also got another tilling in the garden. Even had some time for squirrel culling around the farm. Cindy and the kids are off to a movie so I sit all alone in quiet bliss. POSITIVELY wonderful!:D

Do you have to 'cull' the squirrels Brian?

I have no sympathy for American grey squirrels. They have decimated the numbers of our own native reds here which are far prettier.

I'm up to level 19 in the 3D squares game and I'm only doing it now and again.

Understand them grey squrriels be good eating! Help the homeless and the red squirrels at the same time!

I call the grey squirrels, "tree rats!" Sorry someone introduced them to the UK.

As charities go, the Sally Ann seems to make very good use of the money raised. Add to that all the good they have done over the years for our soldiers overseas and they are high on my list! I wish every church did as much good as they do.

For me, it never quite feels like the Christmas season until I have spent some time tending one of the Salvation Army's kettles. And, while I may rarely pass a kettle without putting something in, I usually can find a spare dollar when I pass a bell-ringer.

Sorry for the delayed response cousin Ianto, but yes, the squirrels must be "culled!" First in the surrounding acreage there are probably ~40 -50 (-the 10 in my freezer;) ). If not decreased, squirrels develop a type of flea that decimates the population by investing the nest and killing the babies!

Also, most of these critters are fat from my plums, grapes, apples, nectarines, peaches, cherries, apricots, blackberries, blueberries, corn, squash, etc. They harvested much more than we did.

They also, drive the small flying squirrel population that I've seen in a few of my nest boxes.

And yes, I do make a fine squirrel stew, the Mountain Man/Frontiersman I tried to be! And, as noted before in Nightlife, if I can get a ride from the Airport, I could bring some stew to the Christmas Meet:D I also give some squirrels to some of my poorer neighbors!

A bit of another side note. I try to act all big brave hunter out there. However, I came across 2 squirrels frolicing together I thought they were too cute and didn't wish to kill one and leave it's mate alone. AM I A Wuss OR WHAT!

Brian
