film choice

just to get an idea about whos out there could you make a list of your favourite 3 films!
yes i know its a bit sad and predictable but it may give a clue about you!

1.goodfellas
2.where eagles dare
3.leon

KIPAX 05-04-2003 10:26

Re: film choice

There are so many. But I must say goodfellas and leon are both excellent choices..

Like music these things change over time. same question a few years ago would be different results.. But rght now.

1) Snatch. You have to watch it more than once to get the whole thing. Brilliant film.

2) Con Air. Probably a passing phase but deffo good.

3) Both Terminator films..

Re: film choice

There are film stars that can appear in just about anything and make a good film.. Tommy Lee Jones, Morgan Freeman, De Niro and Pacino (Those two made HEAT a fantastic film) and suprising (esp' If you first saw him in Saturday night fever) what a film star John Travolta turned out to be.. made some cracking films..

It's a tough choice, but here goes...

Debbie Does Dallas...... oh, you don't mean THAT kind of film?   ;)

OK, seriously.... Goodfellas would definitely be up there, but these are my three.

1) Memento (a film backwards?)
2) The Beyond (Fulci at his very best)
3) The Seventh Seal (Bergman shows the wannabes how to make a great film) Ugh... subtitles?  I wanna watch a film not read it!!   ;)

L A Confidential or anything else with Ray Liotta, as I think he's fit, in a threatening kinda way
The Usual Suspects, Kevin Spacey is great in everything he does, very much like Samuel L Jackson and Morgan Freeman. ;D

At 3. True Romance ( Probably Chrisitan Slaters best ever film )

At 2. Scarface ( Pure Pacino Brilliance )

At 1. Shawshank Redemption ( Can watch this over and over again )

However the 1999 European Cup Final video is not bad, especially the last two minutes ;D

Re: film choice

A good thread Hanchorman. Let's bring it back to life and see what the choices of some of our newer members would be.

My choices are:

1. Mississipi Burning.
A five star classic. A very powerful and intense film, with some superb acting; noteably by Gene Hackman, who was Oscar nominated, and Willem Defoe, as his young FBI sidekick. The type of film to make you sit through the rolling credits to learn every little detail of the making of it.

2. The Shawshank Redemption. Did you see the twist at the end coming? I certainly didn't.
A film that shows that it is possible to change peoples lives for the better, given the chance, even in the most retrictive of circumstances. I particularly liked the ending; redemption via revenge.

3. The Thing. A masterpiece of direction and special effects from John Carpenter.

If I could've had a fourth choice, it would be Alien. I watched this when I was a spotty little herbert, a long time ago, and bricked it all the way through, from the moment John Hurt's character, Kane, 'gave birth'!

Reading through other folks choices, Green Mile looks to be well worth watching.

lettie 12-07-2004 19:22

Re: film choice

Green Mile is definately worth viewing. No expensive blockbuster special effects, it's a people film... :)
I still get all upset at the end though :o

Shawshank Redemption is also an excellent film, one that I'd definately see again. :D

Doug 12-07-2004 20:09

Re: film choice

Green Mile. I agree there lettie, an excellent film.
