Friendliest town?

Right!!!! now i was born and bred in ossy, loved shopping, meeting mates for a night out, and working in accy but then later years took me to blackburn where i had a pub, now live in blackpool, have also spent time in middlesborough , manchester and warrington, and i have to say the friendliest (NOW DONT GET OFFENDED MY FELLOW ACCYWEBBERS) were actually blackburn....(bearing in mind im going back 10 .13 yrs ago so it might have changed) I found that being an out of towner this were the the friendliest place other than my home town....

Gotta go with Accrington, we're a friendly bunch :)

The most unfriendly town has got to be Preston .... I hated living there nobody had a smile for each other, they were a right bunch of miserable sods !!

Repeat after me, "Mick moved out because he isn't miserable".

Now if that saves you getting banned you owe me a pint :D

Oh dont get me wrong i love accy and ossy hence me saying other than your home town...but at the time i found blackburn a very friendly place.... and although i live in blackpool now i dont find it the friendliest of places mainly because its full of tourists though dont think id like to leave it... like i said bb has prob changed shed loads now and think if i was to chose one now well think ossy would come out tops..

Mel if you go over there just make sure one thing - you have had plenty of drinking practice!!! That way you might be able to keep up with them. When i was over there i wasnt sober for 4 days - one a wedding, next my birthday, then 12th & 13th July.

Why are you an authority on the people that live in Preston? When I lived there I actually gave it alot of thought as I felt miserable never having a smile returned, it felt weird. I think it's because many people are just there to work or shop, everyone seems so busy all the time. You don't see many people clogging up the street in the mddle of town having a good old natter.

I never said they were bad people just miserable sods!

cherokee 11-02-2007 23:45

Re: Friendliest town?

i agree with ya there tinks when you say most are there workin etc..but a lot of em are students as well so prob the locals dont get a chance to be friendly because they dont get a look in lol.. soz mick :D
I think it may explain b/pool ,tourism etc,..also...
I will say one thing though and it is the one thing i miss about being back in ossy/accy people over there arent affraid or calling a spade a spade ...I grew up not being affraid of speaking my mind and yes it has got me into trouble sometimes ..but why not tell it like it is ...to me im proud of my roots and if folk dont like it ..ummm dont move to ossy / accy lol..

friendliest place i have ever come across is old algiers across the river from new orleans which for my money is the friendliest city.

 Aaaahhh Thankyou cherokee, I'm glad someone else knows what I'm on about!

I know what you mean about Blackpool, I lived on St Chads Road helping out at a hotel then moved to Vance Road. It's similar but not as un-friendly as Preston. The lovely gossipy women that run some of the hotels make up for some of the miserable ones :)

lancsdave 12-02-2007 13:18

Re: Friendliest town?

I think a lot of Prestoners don't live in Preston itself these days. They tend to live in Leyland or Chorley. That might not make sense but I know what I mean :D

Tinkerbelle 12-02-2007 13:34

Re: Friendliest town?

LOL! I think I know what you mean. :)

I was telling Flashy earlier though it was also the neighbours. I lived in a block of flats on Bairstow street and going out of the property would often meet other people from the flats on the stairs and would often try to exchange pleasantries with a polite "morning" which was always met with silence and a frown.

On the street exactly the same. In town everyone just sooo busy, ignorantly knocking into you and not apologising.

Sorry, but politeness doesn't cost a thing.

Re: Friendliest town?

Sorry folks but i have to agree with tinks A lot of them in Preston are miserable sods exept mummiboo and family;)
why do you think we moved over here people in accy are a lot more friendly AND helpfull they have time to stop and talk, in preston and i think most big towns its all rush .

I must be ill agreeing with tinks on something:eek:

I would never move back there

I have made more true friends here in Accy in the last 10 years than i ever did in Preston

Re: Friendliest town?

Oh hallelujah :bow8: Thankyou Mick I just saw you'd posted in this thread and thought "oppps I'm in trouble now"!!!

I've met lovely mummiboo at Annes birthday meet and often wonder how she manages to stay there, she's definitely not a miserable sod. It really did get me down when I lived there. The only nice person I met while I lived there was my GP, Mr Mayor I think he was called ...... he was obviously an out of towner :D

Does having to go there several times a week qualify for sympathy ? :)
