save our beer..the planet can wait

Read some disturbing news today:

The rapid expansion of biofuel production may be welcome news for environmentalists but for the world’s beer drinkers it could be a different story.
Strong demand for biofuel feedstocks such as corn, soyabeans and rapeseed is encouraging farmers to plant these crops instead of grains like barley, driving up prices.
Large beer producers such as Heineken and some British brewers have stated they may have make wholesale price rises.

Now I'm all for making efforts to slow down Global warming but maybe its time to just pause, look at the situation again, and re-assess our priorities.

Farmers could make a killing here - all those fields lying fallow could now be turned over to growing hops and barley for your pint Mancie :)

Don't forget the farmer gets paid for leaving fields fallow ( or they used to do ).

Yes but think how much more they could charge for high demand crops! :D
