How Nasty Can A Person Get?
 

I have a really good mate who has been working for a furniture showroom for a couple of years and enjoys it. The pay isn't too good but she's ok with that. Her boss offered her a contract the other day which means that she qualifies for Spanish Social and health care. As she is carting on a bit it's well good for her and I was pleased that they had finally noticed her abilities.

However, there is this bloke who works alongside her who wants the position for his wife. As he already has a contract and should his wife get the same they will be able to cancel the expensive private scheme they have at the moment. He has really slagged my friend to the boss..........so much so that she feels it would be better for her to walk away.

She rang me today to ask my advice. I was so disgusted with the whole thing. I told her to rise above it, take the contract, carry on and ignore the pair of them. Was I right?

sounds no different than most companies i have worked for , we in teh trade call them cants and this one can easily be dealt with by your friend taking teh job and informing this person every day how glad she is she took the contract

thats intimidating her into backing down june, thats pathetic, tell her to hold her head up high and ignore that saddo, she's much better than he is...if i was there i'd slap him for ya :D

Seems to me your friend is missing the most important element here ... the boss !

Does she know for sure that 'the boss' believes her colleague's lies ?

Only way to find out is to approach her boss and ask him how he feels about her performance at work and her future employment, as a little worried that reports by other members of staff may be a little distorted/misunderstood (or words to that effect). Will have to choose her words carefully; however, if he is a competent boss, will know already what is going on.

I think you were right June, I'm sure her boss wouldn't have offered the contract if he didn't think she was up to it.
She needs to hold her head up high and ignore the pathetic man.

Your friend should stick it out june, as this 'slick spick' will be a looser if his wife gets a job woking along side him, I would sooner do life than work with the wife.:D
