Re: Big Brother
Now I’ve seen it I’m shocked and disappointed in how Channel four can be so stupid as to be led into dismissing the nasty little sod for saying to that word in the context she did. I would have dollocked her and forbid her from nominating for the rest of the show. I think Charlie was the person who made the matter offensive and it’s time the nasty bitch hit the road.

She's thick, and 4 had no choice but to boot her out. |
Re: Big Brother
so call me a scouser and i find it bad would you be kicked out .mancie would have been kicked of accy web long time ago so would a lot of other people for calling people mancs its a joke.
|
Re: Big Brother
Emily is supposedly well educated. She should know that a lot of people find it offensive, just as a lot of women find the 'c' word very offensive.
She was thick to use it, but I don't think she meant to be racist. She's a girl who has had a sheltered and privileged life, who thought she was being hip and street to use that word. Don't forget that this is the girl who thinks Indie music is new, and that she invented skinny jeans. Naive is the word. |
Re: Big Brother
Quote:
I’m sorry Gary. Yes the word was offensive in any context. I agree with that, but the Charlie girl clearly manipulated the situation by continually referring the issue and by engaging the whole of the house by the end of the night. Just giving any one listening enough to get the picture and keeping the issue going. She herself used the word herself in a far different tone on multiple occasion as did Nicky at least three times but no action was taken against them. Obviously it’s ok for the afro Caribbean population to use the word extensively and for a minority of coloured people to make millions of pounds each year using the word in music that can be heard on any street corner, but why when some silly little uneducated bitch says it trying to be hip we have a major incident. I wanted the nasty sod out as well but I wanted the public to decide that. Nicky to Win.........:) |
Re: Big Brother
It is about context. Young black men have reclaimed the word, and use it to call each other it all the time, just as they used to use the word brother, and it is part of Gangsta culture, which Emily clearly isn't.
They were all warned about offensive behaviour, especially in the light of the Shilpa Shetty row, and she was naive to think it wouldn't be jumped on by the producers. Nicky, a sensible young women, was physically shocked, and stunned, when Emily came out with it. |
Re: Big Brother
Quote:
I would never dream of using it. But like davo said would you be in trouble for calling him a scouser?? Would one of them be booted for calling Laura something nasty for the Welsh?? There are so many different terms that some people deem "racist" and others don't, where do we draw the line? I think the fact that Charley has used the word aswell and not been punished ins't right. Channel 4 said in thier statement the Emily used a word that could be deemed offensive to other housemates and the viewing public, so why was Charley's use of it not deemed offensive to the viewing public even if it wasn't to any other housemates?? |

It's all good publicity for Big Brother.

Re: Big Brother
If Emily has black friends who use the word amongst themselves and she uses it to them in the same context and they do not take offence but take it from her as they would from each other and even throw it back at her then it's understandable that Emily would not consider it offensive to use that word to Charlie in the same way she uses it to her friends.
If she had come out with a statement which was designed to insult and offend then that would be different. The problem with this word is that it does get used a lot and Emily appears to have been using it in that same sort of context, which Charlie then picked up on and turned against her, which to me seems on the surface to have been the more racist and offensive act. One of my daughters has a friend who uses the p word in her MSN ID - well it rhymes with Accy and sounds good. When my daughter uses it to identify her friend is she then being racist? Sometimes I think we need to step back and look at the intent behind the use of a word which can either be offensive or not and to stop allowing ourselves to be so intimidated we end up being afraid to refer to common everyday items like blackboards for fear of offending someone. From Lolly's transcript it simply looks as if Emily was encouraging Charlie to dance and picked upon a word that she had heard Charlie herself using. It makes me uneasy when we have rules for one race of people which do not apply to others. Surely it is distinctions like this which are racist. If a half Indian girl can use the word without being reprimanded why should anyone else be condemned for doing so? Half Indian is not the same race as African or of African descent or Afro-Caribbean (which I'm not even sure we're allowed to say nowadays.) Yes by all means stamp out racism but lets get a grip on what racism actually is. |
Re: Big Brother
Hello
i think its very stupid all this racist things, people from other countries that live in england call us names as well, what about that? do we have to take all the rubbish from them, im spanish but my family is english and people called spaniard, its a word that most people use but to us is an offence but we dont go crazy about it i thinks its stupid |
Re: Big Brother
Excuse me if I've misunderstood but are you saying that to call you Spaniard is an insult? I am confused by that. If people call me a Brit it doesn't bother me because I am British but sometimes the word has been used with the intention to offend years ago when I was in Ireland and that was different. This is why I say it is not so much the word as the intention behind the word which is relevant.
If the word "Spaniard" is insulting what term do you prefer? It's so easy to offend people without meaning to. |
Re: Big Brother
If you can believe what you read in the soar away Sun, little Emily isn't exactly whiter than white, if you'll excuse the pun, when it comes to matters of racial sensitivity.

havent been watching it, everytime i tune in some ****** different in the house!, im all confused, so im not bothering!!

Re: Big Brother
Its not really that confusing. Ive been abroad for a week and have managed to keep up with it. Although i'm gutted I didn't get to see the awful Shabnam evicted.
The twist last night was genius. It will really start to show peoples true colours. By the way does anyone know just how the hell Charley managed to escape eviction? She may be good tv to some people but to me shes just an annoying silly immature person!!!! |

Re: Big Brother
Jonathon, judging by the boos on BB's Big Mouth last night.
He's good though, because he keeps winding Charlie up, so he should stay. I wouldn't miss Carole, who reminds me of Bod's mother, for anyone old enough to remember the Bod children's books. |

This series of BB has been totally weird for me. Normally my equally sad friends call me in every break, for the whole three month run, to discuss/discect what has happened in the preceding fifteen minutes. That was until they moved to Gran Canaria earlier this year. Tonight in the first ad break the phone went. They are somehow watching C4 by means of some dodgy satellite dish, and so now my summer is back to normal.:) Bit of a shock Seany getting the boot. He should be given a medal for pushing Charlie in the pool.:D |
Re: Big Brother
I was very shocked Seany went. Not as shocked as he was though. When he started crying during his interview, bless!! (and yes I do think it was genuine!)
I agree with Rindy about pushing Charley in the pool!! I'd have thought that alone would have saved him. When I lived in Cyprus, there was a bar that showed BB every night, it was always packed too! |

Re: Big Brother
Johnathan has left the BB house due to the death of his Grandmother.
My thoughts are with him and his family. |
Re: Big Brother
It's sad for him and his family, but didn't he say his granny was a hundred and five or something, the other week?
A grand old age. |
Re: Big Brother
Well he's 49 so, yeah she must have been a good age. RIP.

Re: Big Brother
Well Chanelle & Laura are up for eviction. Laura will go.
But I don't care, how the HELL has that vile excuse for a human being managed to dodge it again????:mad::mad: (Oh, by the way thats Charley!!!!) |

Charley to win!!! She's a cow, but good value for money.:D Chanelle might go, all those vindictive people who want to split up her and Ziggy!;) |

Nooooooooooooooo!! Rindy shes awful!!!
I was nearly in tears when Johnathon broke down in the bathroom after being told of his Grandmothers death. |
Re: Big Brother
They should blow some toxic gas into the house and we could watch them all slowly become unconcious and nearly die... our biology teacher did that at school with a mouse in a fish tank and it looked dead.... but when he took the top off the mouse recoverd back to life! great stuff

What do people make of the "Fake Week" twist then??
I thinks its brilliant, but the girl is gonna have to be a cracking actress to keep it up for a week, especially the accent. |
Re: Big Brother

Though the cynic in me thinks that it's just another ploy by BB to keep Charley in the house. She's bound to be nominated, bound to be evicted, then will bound straight back into the house, just moments after slagging off her fellow housemates to Davina. Genius.:D |

But they have eyes in their head and could hear the girl- it was so obvious. Just as it is obvious what the producers are hoping will happen this week- Charlie to be voted out in the fake eviction, hear what everyone has said about her then get sent back into the house. At this point clearly all hell will break loose- viewing figure heaven. They have also clarly chosen the actress to see if they can mix things up a bit with Ziggy and Chanelle |

So has anyone been actually watching it this year?? I've kept up in the papers and have watched the eviction show on a Saturday morning (I work on Friday nights) apart from that I haven't really, I haven't been able to get into it as much as previous years I don't know why! Maybe its because I don't really like anyone in the house, apart from the Twins, I know they're dim and annoying at times, but they are so sweet and innocent, lovely girls.
TWINS TO WIN!!!!!:) |
Re: Big Brother
I know I said at the begining that i can not get into it,....BUT i have been watching, and must admit im a BIT hooked!...i know i should get a life, but love watching brian making a pratt of himself, but like you said lolly the twins will probably win it, with brian coming a close second:)

Re: Big Brother
With a BB addicted mum & brother it's hard to not have an opinion on it even though I can't stand it!
Interesting story about BB - one of the heads at Endemol, producers of the show, had a grandfather that was responsible for engineering the magnificent structure that is the sewer system around London in the late 19th century. So basically, his job was to shovel the s**t out of Britain, while decades later his grandson is ploughing s**t back into it with his telly programs! :D I would agree with Garinda for the likely eviction order, but I would like it to be: Carole Brian Ziggy Liam Jonty Twins (winners) |

Re: Big Brother
I've enjoyed this year.
A relationship that started, then ended, then started, and then ended with a walkout. A middle aged virgin who likes to be spanked, and who laughs hysterically when he farts, like it's the funniest think he's ever heard. Identical twins who are studying at university, but who think the Isle of Wight is an independent country. A guy who rates Babe In The City as having more artistic merit than Romeo and Juliet. A Public school girl thrown out for being racist, when all she was trying to do was get down with the homies. A sarf Lahndan 'It' girl, so delusional and argumentative she became a legend. Plus a cast of the usual freaks and misfits, that we've been able to watch like rats in a cage for the past three months. What more do you want? I've loved it all. Roll on next May.:D |

Re: Big Brother
The first year I really watched it was last year to be honest when I got dragged into it cos my eldest son was watching but I enjoyed Pete's antics and was soon as hooked as he was. This year it's been more me & my youngest wanting to watch and though most of em have been ok, I really can't stand Ziggy, he's so smarmy & fake. Jonty or the twins to win :)
|
Re: Big Brother
Be glad when its over. Has as much appeal as fillin my bed with fire ants nests!!!!!! Fed up of hearing about it and it being in the daily rags!!!

Re: Big Brother
well looks like the twins will win
|
Re: Big Brother
Well it's 50/50 between them & Brian & he did seem to get the most cheers from the crowd, don't really mind which of them wins - just glad it wasn't Ziggy or Carol - but what the hell was Liam crying for earlier - he's already got a hundred grand to come out to, not bad for three months work:)
