Detergents.
This week I am embarking on the task of cleaning everything from kitchen sink to dusty lamps, post decorating.
Have got all my cleaners out and so far they list as :- Flash Kitchen Cleaner with Bleach. Mr. Muscle Window Cleaner. Hob Brite. 1001 Carpet Cleaner. Grout Cleaner. Brillo pads. Orange Smelling Pledge Soapy Wood Cleaner. Wet wipes for wood. Orange smelling wet wipes for floor. Soapy wood cleaner. Fairy Liquid. Finish Dish Washer Liquid. Rinse for Dish Washer. Patio Cleaner. Amtico Floor Dressing. Brasso. !!!!!! Get the feeling I am being duped here and a bit of a mug. Sure vinegar and bicarbonate of soda would do all these jobs... :( Also, keep getting mixed up .. put Flash on me grouting, Carpet Cleaner on me windows and bleach cleaner on my kitchen furniture. Not taking any of these into bathrooms or feel would be spraying Soapy Wood Cleaner under my armpits. (humph and that's another long list) |

Re: Detergents.
have a look at how clean is your house website for cleaning tips as they dont tend to use Detergents
|
Re: Detergents.
I've got mine down to a few basics but discover I seem to have an awful lot of glass/window cleaning products and never use them.
|
Re: Detergents.

Re: Detergents.
Consult Kim and Aggie, either the book ,'Kim and Aggie's guide to Household Management', or their website. They don't advocate wasting money on all these supermarket cleaning products. They can tell you how all sorts of cleaning jobs can be done using all sorts of things you will probably already have in the house. They manage to do a variety of jobs with bicarbonate of soda, lemon juice, vinegar, biological washing powder, soda crystals....not all together at once of course!:D
Things like this smell nice,do lots of different jobs and are cheap to buy:D |
Re: Detergents.
I find that damp microfibre cloths can do most cleaning jobs without any chemicals whatsoever. They just soak up grease and muck as if by magic.
|
Re: Detergents.
I've a cupboard full of cleaning products too, dont use them that often though, no time, I'm always on Accy web:)
swear by white vinegar for windows though and bleach for the bogs. |
Re: Detergents.
I like my steam cleaner for lots of jobs and use no chemicals.....I sometimes use a bit of bicarb cleaning out the fridge....and soda crystals for greasy stuff...but other than that I do not use lots of cleaning products.

By the way, Grego .. the plumber that fit my toilet told me that putting bleach down a toilet was a plumber's best friend, destroys the enamel like .. sure OK .. but never put it to the test. That Kim and Aggie site really good, found one or two tips, but for now will have to use the products I've got. Next job: cupboard that holds all me pans, cooking trays, etc .. can imagine the grease in there Yuk !! Me mum used to use lining paper, some with pretty edges for shelves, do they still sell this ? |
Re: Detergents.
Ewwww I HATE bleach. Never use the stuff. I love my steam cleaner, but between times I use baby wipes for all sorts of things.
I use fairy liquid for washing up ( antibacterial ) |

Re: Detergents.
My little steam cleaner can do almost anything Kate. It can do carpets, hard floors, curtains, work tops, sinks, wood, hub caps, ovens n hobs. bath rooms, gets rid of dust, freshens artificial flowers, defrost es freezers. cleans and deoderizes the fridge. Has a squeegee for mirrors, windows and tiles. sterilizers bins. Oh, the list is endless.

Re: Detergents.
i use a car spray for my windows, it comes in a can from.....pounland:D its excellent
|
Re: Detergents.
Ur welcome Kate. It only uses water and it not only cleans but sanitises and deodorises has well. Great for getting rid of those pesky bed bugs and dust mites.
I got mine off the TV shopping channel had it over 12mothes and it cost around 80.00 |
Re: Detergents.
Lidl are selling one for about the same price...with all the attachments.
I like mine too. I have had steam cleaners for over 10 years....Polti was the first and best...it cost £350 quid but over the years it must have saved me at least that much in cleaning stuff and dry cleaning bills....the one I have now is not as good but was only a fifth of the price, so you get what you pay for. I would certainly buy another polti...and will do when this one is worn out. |
Re: Detergents.
Thats what I wanted but finances limited. But my shark is brilliant for cost, size and performance.
I love it. |
