Well today I have booked a cruise to Bilbao. I am going Tuesday and it's with P&O cruises.

I have never been, never even been on a ship lol.....:D

Have any of you been??

Me and ginger are going for our wedding Anniversary!! NO CHILDREN hehe

mel you do realise how long you'll be on the boat dont you? its a lot longer trip than what paul was on the boat for the other week, hope your not sea sick either....and you have to get down to portsmouth to get on the boat

Those P&O mincruises are a bit like Butlins on water :)

We went on the Belguim one last year and doing the Holland one soon.

the belgium one is good, ive done that 3 times now, but its mels first trip by boat and its a fair distance to go when you've not sailed before, especially this time of the year

Get some Traveleeze tablets from Asda Chemist or Boots just in case. We got some because my daughter was panicking a bit about seas sickness when we went. As it happened we didn't need them :)

Did you pre-book meals as well ? Cheaper if you pre-book and although they seem a bit pricey the food is very good and it's self service buffet style so you eat all you want :)

No we didn't pre-book meals, because it's hit and miss with me whether I want breakfast or not ( not a breakfast person ) so Ginger said no point pre-booking them, we will just pay when we get on the ferry. I know it's a little dearer to pay when you get on, but he is paying, so I aint worried :D:D

I think I will take youur advice and go asda for some tablets. Don't think I will need em. Not a lot makes me feel sick (( been a carer for 9 years )) :D but they are there just in case!!

Thanks for sparing us the detail :D

On the various occasions I go to France I try to avoid the ferry and go by tunnnel because I don't like the ferries. When we went to Belguim I wasn't overkeen on doing the boat thing but even though it was mid Feb in the North Sea, waves about 10 mile high I didn't really notice too much and actually enjoyed it.

Hope you see some Dolphins on your way :)

I Went On One To Santander ....& Done One To Brugges You Will Love It, Meals Are Excellent On Board, & Sometimes If Your Lucky The Bar Can Stay Open Lat, Very Very Late, Once Went To Bed At 3-30am Up At 4pm To Be On Coach By 5am God I Were Rough On That One .........he He So Was The Driver.......entertainment Not Bad Either, Some Have Quiz Nights Too, Good Luck I Hope You Enjoy ..........oh By The Way I Have Some Seabands You Can Borrow No Need For Pills They Work A Treat ...

I went on a mini cruise/ferry to Gothenburg many years ago. The booze was very expensive (being a Swedish ship) but the buffet was divine.
I have looked at the website for your cruise - get a cabin class cabin - has a DOUBLE BED!!!! :D

oh i forgot to mention the rhine xmas river cruise we did last year that was ace too, food superb, had xmas in november it was "wonderba", they were just setting all the stalls up for their xmas decorations & stuff ooo that was super like an alladins cave.

OH that sounds nice!! This one we are going on is a comedy cruise. It bloody will be when ginger gets on it any way :D:D

You'll love it slinks. I prefer going by ferry rather than flying. Comes from going to Ireland every year for hols - Stranrear to Larne, i've been to holland on the ferry, france a few times, sailed into dublin a couple of times and liverpool -belfast as well.

I am really looking forward to it now!! :D Only thing I am not so looking forward to is the driving down the Portsmouth!! I aint a very good traveler by car :( But I suppose it's got to be done If I want to go and have a nice time...it'll be worth it.:o

One tip though - buy your snacky things like crisps etc before you get on the boat. Because you cant buy from anywhere else its expensive!!! Otherwise have a good time. Dont forget the duty free - when you sail out of the harbour at Portsmouth they open duty free.

Was wondering how you were going on as we took the other route across the North Sea to Rotterdam and visited Amsterdam. At least we had a smooth crossing this time :)

I was sick on the second night, but i think that was due to the curry I had eaten, cos I was fine once I had been sick.

It was pretty rough coming back!! Me and ginger had a early night on the night coming back because it just made us feel a bit queezy!!

But it wasn't half as bad as i thought it would be!!

I have a great fear of water and when crossing the channel always prefer the tunnel than the ferry, but the mini cruises they do from Hul or Portsmouth are much bigger ships and most of the time you don't even realise you are at sea.

I was nervous!! I borrowed some SEABANDS off Mez ( they are actually in the picture where I am led in bed ) :D and they worked a treat. The scenery is breath taking on a clear day!!

I felt a little queezy coming home from Bilbao, but I can't say it was that bad that i wouldn't do it again!!
The main time I felt sick was walking around Bilbao!! When you have been travelling on a boat for quite a while, when you get off, it still feels like everything is moving, and that made me feel a bit ill!! It's a bit like having vertigo :( BUT it is worth it!!

If your not quite sure how you will feel, just go on a nice small one to Calais or something!! But I do recommend it.

Im not frightened of sailing , ive been on speedboats , ferrys etc but its the big liners that im wary of , ive seen them on tv go up in flames and stuff and that was me saying no way!!!
