I.D cards for children on buses
i think this has got totally out of hand, was boarding a bus with Reece yesterday and the driver stopped me and asked me how old he was, as Reece is 11 and the smallest 11 year old around i was gobsmacked, the driver then said to me you will have to pay full fare for him, i asked why and he said because you havent got a young persons saver card for him, i hadnt a clue what he was on about, so he gave me a leaflet....
If you're aged between 11 and 16 you may still travel at the reduced rate, but you will need to obtain a Young Person's Saver Card. Children aged 10 and under may wish to consider obtaining a Young Person's Saver Card to prove entitlement to the reduced rate. Young People Aged 11 to 16 Young people aged between 11 and 16 may travel at the reduced rate upon production of a valid Young Person's Saver Card. Young people aged 11 and above who do not have a Young Person's Saver Card (or similar proof of age) will be required to pay the FULL ADULT FARE. Young people who do not live in Lancashire may use any other bus company or local authority proof of age card to obtain reduced rate travel on our services. Aged 11 to 14 Saver Cards issued to young people aged 11 to 14 are valid for 12 months. Aged 15 Saver Cards issued to young people aged 15 are valid for 12 months, or until 31st July following their 16th birthday - whichever is sooner. Aged 16 Saver Cards issued to young people aged 16, and in Year 11 at school, are valid until 31st July following their 16th birthday. This ensures that all Secondary School students (up to Year 11) may travel at the reduced rate. apparently these saver cards are available at the library in Accrington or the bus place on Ainsworth street in Blackburn, if you are aged between 11 and 13 you dont need to pay for them, but older than that they are £2 a year, you will need to take with you 2 passport sized photo's and a passport or birth certificate is this transdev's way of making a few extra pounds?? |
Re: I.D cards for children on buses
Actually I don't think it's such a bad idea for children to get these I.D. cards because they are having to prove their age for more and more things and if they have one they will have less trouble........and they'll also be sure to get half fare on the bus with no problem.

Re: I.D cards for children on buses
These cards are a good idea in principle but the kids shouldn't have to pay for them, that's just a way as Flashytart says of making extra money for no real reason.
I twice had the same experience as Flashy had when getting on a Blackburn bus with my thirteen year old, ok he's tall but no way does he look anywhere near 16. Difference was the first time it happened the driver happily took my word on his age & I paid half-fare, the second time I had to pay full for him so it's obviously something the driver can use his discretion on. These cards are good if the kids are travelling alone but if they are with an adult who confirms their age or are in school uniform they shouldn't need them. |

Just goes to show it's a money making scam. They are making out, it's so they know the kids ages, yet there is no age on the cards  Brainy people. |
Re: I.D cards for children on buses
i thought exactly that when i came away, silly fools
oh and here's a tip for you all, they dont actually have to be passport photo's, as long as the pics show a clear headshot of the child and arent too small they will do, a few people i've spoke to today went out and paid for actual passport pics and didnt know anything about the other pics you can have (i asked the bloke in the spot on shop) i took a mini school pic of Reece down and my dad photocopied it for me so i had two :D |
Re: I.D cards for children on buses
If it's an I.D. card it should have all of the persons details..........I think you are right about it being a money-making scheme.........where will it end........will you have to get I.D. for babies before you can get them out of hospital...Especially if you taking them home on the bus.

Re: I.D cards for children on buses
brilliant idea for kids to have id cards
|
Re: I.D cards for children on buses
i got on the bus for half until they brung the card out and im 20 in 2 weeks lol
|
Re: I.D cards for children on buses
i do think it is a realli good idea
|
Re: I.D cards for children on buses
I got away paying half until i was nearly 21 and then i just bought a bus pass. Then 9 months of that and i got a free bus pass as i was working for the bus company. They brought the id cards in because of people like me - paying half when they shouldnt have been. They dont need the birthdate on because they will have had proof of their birthdate when it was issued - and as kids can lose stuff pretty regular its a good idea not to have their birthdate or their address on.

Re: I.D cards for children on buses
Earlier in this thread someone asked about whether pensioners need bus pass cards -yes they do--
this website provides the info NowCard: The Smart Card for Lancashire, Blackburn with Darwen, Blackpool and Cumbria |
Re: I.D cards for children on buses
I have just renewed these passes for my two lads for the second year
They are happy to reuse the same pics and just cut the old pass up and take pic out and make new pass :) The passes only cost £2 for the full year so I don't mind and tbh my eldest is 6ft tall so if he didn't have this pass no way would he get on for child price! In blackburn it is the tourist info shop on church street that do them flashy..or that is where I was told was the only place that does them now! What really aggravated me though was the driver who took my youngest sons pass off him as it had just gone out of date and I was due to get the new ones the next day and he made him pay full price  |
Re: I.D cards for children on buses
harwood you can get them from the libary in accrington in the future.

Re: I.D cards for children on buses
i know the passes are only £2 for the year but i dont think you should have to pay for one for children under 16 yrs old. i think its a good idea to have a pass though.

Re: I.D cards for children on buses
If the child is in school uniform I think some drivers are being a bit pedantic if they insist on full fare if they don't have a card. It's obvious they are still school age if they are wearing the uniform isn't it?

When I got them last year for the first time I had to provide 2 pics, 1 was put on the pass and the other kept on file! Willow I completely agree with you on the uniform issue as it has cropped up many times, from what I can gather if an inspector gets on the bus and a child does not have this saver card but yet has paid half fare the driver can actually be disciplined..so maybe that is why they are being so strict about it. I think the £2 is not unreasonable as it only really covers the cost of the pass and paperwork I presume |

I can understand it when it comes to pensioners half fares and bus passes because it's hard to tell with some people. They don't look old enough to be entitled to a pensioners pass. But a child in school uniform is obviously a school age child. I can understand it if they have those prepaid passes or something that they need to show that to avoid paying for a ticket. |

Re: I.D cards for children on buses
I have a disabled rail pass and all it has on it is my name, issued at , date valid to and number of the rail pass. No photo, birthdate, address. Any female could use this instead of me.
