Heart broken :(

4 Attachment(s)
Really upset today. Home for the weekend, and I went to my mums to find my bosc monitor had passed away :( He'd only just turned two years old. Not sure why he died :( Just hope he's gone to reptile heaven where he can be happy.

Miss him so much already :(

Sorry to hear about your pet Blazey, not sure what a normal lifespan is for one of those is or if its affected in any way by being kept as a pet, not natural for reptiles, sure you'll miss him for a while pets do become part of the family

He shouldve lived the same amount of time as a dog. Its not really normal to keep any pet, and he lived in more of a natural habitat than what dogs and cats do. As for birds, well having their wings clipped so they cant fly and keeping them in cages isnt natural either, but they live good lives. He was alive for two years and I keep reptiles as a hobby, bit like pedigree cat/dog breeders. Don just happened to be my favourite and closest to my heart.

I weren't having a dig Blazey so no need to be so defensive, in your photo Dons habitat looked ok to me, I completely disagree with your statement regarding dogs and cats though, I too would disagree with anyone clipping the wings of birds. I had no idea that reptiles live so long, are you going to get a professional opinion regarding his death?

No it costs too much and I dont want him being prodded and cut open when he's dead, so I'd rather just put it down to the cold weather. Different reptiles live for different periods of time. As for the dog and cat thing, there are clearly types of cat and dog that are not suitable for a household, just as some reptiles arent suitable for in the home, so I think it's very similar. But I guess it depends what species and what opinion u have on it.

Blazey, I am sorry you have lost your beloved pet.
I have cats and I know how much they become part of the family, and you really do miss them when the leave us. You can only tell yourself that he had a privileged life.

Well our persian cat came in whilst I was taking him out of his vivarium and it was meowing (i know thats not how u spell it officially) at the empty vivarium. So it seems the cats are wondering where he has gone too :(

Sorry to hear about the passing of your pet Blazey. Presumably he had heat in his viv so the cold shouldn't have been a problem. Did you have him from a baby?

Not realy a domestic animal, why keep these poor creatures in a 'foreign' environment, surely this practice of keeping snakes/ lizards should be stopped. "This is purely a personal opinion, not a critiscism of anyone who keeps these fine animals, ta.";)

You'd be surprised how similar to a cat that species of lizard actually is! Some people have them walking around the house, but mine preferred his basking rock under his light.

Monitor lizards like mine actually have a hard time in the wild and have to eat rotting meat to survive, and many reptiles are kept for the sake of keeping the numbers up so they dont go extinct. Alot of care is taken to ensure their domestic habitat is as close to their natural one as possible and theyre happy healthy pets.
Its kind of like how everyone used to keep pet tortoises, but now they are more expensive fewer people keep them and people keep them properly rather than in their gardens out with the rabbits.

I agree blazey . they are more like a domestic pet than folk realise .
Sol loves his domain but i still have to let him out for a wander around the house everyday . as soon as i go into his room he knows its time for his pampering and starts pawing at the glass . and he wont let up until hes had his cuddle then bath and a walk around for an hour the back for food and a nice evenig basking on his log .

HAHA I put some locust in for him last week and my son didnt know and came home from work and opened his door for him ..:eek:omg i had a house full of locust .. all cleared now though thank god..:D

Some people who have never actually held a lizard imagine that they are cold and slimy. It's not until you actually touch one that you know how lovely they are.

Yes thats very true! I used to take Don into the pet shop and everyone used to stroke him and say how nice he was. They werent too keen on his food though! I am hoping that I will be able to get another one like him in the future, there are any that are dumped in rescue centres unfortunatly, as people dont realise how big that species get when they buy them, and think that they just look cute.

Hopefully I'll find one thats in need of a warm loving home and some TLC :(

On a brighter note, I have a found a man who has been injured at work for some time and unable to care for his bosc any longer, so I will providing a home for one in need.

Hopefully I'll be able to have him picked up at the weekend, and the owner can at least have the knowledge that I've had experience with them and can provide a nice home.
