I don't believe you enjoy smoking.
How could you enjoy spending all that money to make your clothes, breath, house stink and pollute the air your children breathe?

Why not be honest and just say I can't give up because I am addicted to cigarettes?

I enjoy smoking. I have no inclination whatsoever to give up.

Tell me about pollution when you can tell me that you dont run a car, use fossil fuels or spray aftershave/deodourant etc.

Until then leave me to kill myself in peace ;)

Oh, here we go again ... deja vu x 20

Mods please delete this post, this is for us smokers ... not t'others.. :D

I overcome the points you mention as follows:-

Cloths: Very, very rarily, do I wear any item of clothing more than once without washing/dry cleaning .. can you say this ?

Breath: When in company, do chew minty chewing gum (no, don't throw it on the floor either). Do you do this to cover up the last meal's lingering odours ?

House: Do use air fresheners (ones I am not allergic too). Had friends over recently who are always nagging me about my smoking ('cause they love me like) they did comment that, amazingly, my house did not smell of smoke. Do you have plug-ins and thingies.. far more dangerous for health. Have, now stopped smoking in the bedrooms now in living room ... so, yes, admit was a problem but am trying to be good about this.

Children: Agree ' tis a worry, but more people are aware now, and not smoking around their kids, but car exhaust pram levels are far more dangerous.

Yes, admit am addicted, and not going to stop now, so go away, and please do not wear trainers at the next Accyweb meet ... LOL.

Oh hek !! Just burnt me pork chop now, and house full of smoke ...

I dont smoke and i dont care :alright:
all my friends smoke and i dont mind

my good wife smokes and she says i dont have to mind :gooddog:

so all the do gooders leave the smoke addled friends of mine alone

Re: Carry On Smoking.

I smoke, i enjoy smoking and am not planning to give up anytime soon. I will do but only when i'm good and ready and not when i'm dictated to do so!!!

I dont smoke in the house or the car, or anywhere near my son.

I can afford to smoke so i really dont give a damn what so called "do gooders" say.

The one thing that annoys me about these people is that the pub I work at doesnt have a designated smoking area, so im afraid we smoke at the front door. And they have the nerve to complain that they have to walk past the smokers when coming in!! You got your way with the smoking ban, now leave us alone to smoke outside in the cold!!!! If you dont like it simple.... go to another pub!

I am being honest, and have given up in the past, it was my choice to start smoking again! And FYI, my house doesnt stink as I smoke outside and I dont make my children breathe cigarette smoke! I will give up when I want to. Its my choice to smoke as it is a persons choice to drink etc

Ok, but as a smoker myself if they came along with a magic wand tomorrow and said you can give up right now and never ever want a cigarette again in the future who would sign up ? No withdrawal pangs or anything.....I`d be tempted. And yes I smoke because I am chemically addicted to nicotine :-)

Re: Carry On Smoking.

I am an addict, I gave up once and found it difficult, but was off them for 6 months, giving up is a mindset, coupled with change of habits and keeping over-occupied, since I enjoy a fag, can afford to smoke, and are not in a mind to give up at the moment, then am with cashy and co, the non smokers can do what they were supposed to do when they got thier way with the smoking ban, go drink in the empty pubs with the stale stench of beer spillage and hops, (which is worse imo than fag smoke). Nice thread cashy! ;)

LOL at you all saying you want to smoke.

I love smokers they keep my income tax down, the Government steal enough of my wage as it is so please do keep up the smoking.

I don't care if people smoke or not, I was outside most of the time on Saturday night anyway. It just makes me laugh when people really do think they want to smoke and it is not the nicotine making them think that.

Good thread Cashy. Can I join your club? I like my ciggies and am with katex on the chewing gum thing although I would prefer a smell of ciggies on someone's breath any day over the vile stench of halitosis that so many non smokers seem to be afflicted by yet oblivious to.

Re: Carry On Smoking.

A few years ago I would have been in your club. I was an addict but I really enjoyed my cigarettes. Unfortunately, after smoking for over 40 years, it started to make me ill and I realised that if I didn't stop I was just going to get worse and worse. I actually stopped during a bout of smoking-related illness - I was too poorly to smoke - and when I got better I realised I'd got through all the withdrawal symptoms and hardly noticed, so I stayed stopped.

I still fancy a smoke every now and then. It's not the nicotine I miss, it's the act of smoking. However I know I am just like an alcoholic is with booze and I know that 1 cigarette would immediately put me back on 30 a day. I don't mind if you smoke, though, but not in my house - the smell would make me desperate to join you. ;)

As someone else said, If i didnt want to smoke, I would spend my life trying to give up, or even worse, turn into one of 'THOSE' ex -smokers.

I havent tried to give up, mainly because I dont want to. If i feel the need to give up, then I might try it. Theres a hell of a lot worse things i can do. Makes me laugh when people talk about the waste of money. Usually the same people that spend at least 20 quid down the pub. I dont drink, so will spend my money the way I want to

yes smoking is dangerous, so's drinking. I know which i prefer

I gave up for 2 very long years, people claim that it gets easier, it didn't for me, every morning I could have enjoyed, (yes, ENJOYED), a fag.

Then one day I thought sod this why am I beating myself up? bought a packet, Ahhh, the relief!

Yes I'm addicted but I don't steal from other people to feed my addiction and I'm happy to say I didn't turn into an intolerant ex-smoker during that long period of cold turkey.

So you none smokers now have the inside of the pubs, don't you dare come outside on a sunny day complaining about us smokers in the garden, it's ours we've been out here all winter so bog off!

Re: Carry On Smoking.

I have smoked for 50 years, so the habit is well established.
I do not recommend it, and will never encourage it.

Two years ago I gave up for 8 months but never lost the craving.
I exhausted myself by keeping continuously active to avoid thinking about them.

Last year I had a bad attack of rhinitis, brought on by air fresheners, which led me to research inhaled irritants. As well as eliminating man made chemicals from my environment, I switched to smoking pure tobacco(rollups).

I am convinced that cigarette manufacturers add addictive chemicals to tobacco, because even though I was getting a 'nicotine fix', I still craved manufactured ciggies. The conversion to smoking only the natural leaf has enabled me to halve the number smoked and I no longer have nasal/sinus problems.

I am not making excuses - none are appropriate  -I enjoy it in the same way that chocoholics enjoy chocolate, and shopoholics enjoy shopping.

Everyone of us places our health in hazard in some way (including you)
I defend our right to do that in a way we feel comfortable doing, as long as we are aware of the risks and cause no harm to others, I don't regard it as a problem.

Yes, your right there, that is what is happening. I have got talking to people that I wouldn't have got chatting to through the smoking ban.
And as I have said before, friends who don't smoke, but don't want to be sat on there own always come outside with us smokers :confused:

I noticed on the Great harwood webcam on saturday, there must have been at least 20 people stood outside the pub across the road!! and they stayed there til closing..... must have been a barrel of laughs in that pub eh??

Yep.........Sex......dirty habit........makes your eyes water.

What is the future?
We will allow the people of Britain to indulge...once a month.
This will ensure the sustainability and keep the economy of the UK on an even keel.
We have banned smoking in pubs and managed to close a lot of establishments where the dirty habits were prevelent.
We have introduced the 20p tax to ensure that the working man no longer enjoys his pint and a fag.
We will continue to give thousands of pounds in Foreign Aid to support the likes of Robert Magabi........Because we like him?
We dont take Law and Order seriously....Policemen cost money.
We need more money to squander....We want to know 'how many children brush their teeth every day'?
Criminals....yeh we know who they are but if we arrest them some 'Mamby Pamby Magistrate will free them on bail......so what's the point?
Muggers, Burglers.......no problem....allow them to commit 100 offences and then send them to the 'Pokey'
Where the hell are we going wrong?

Re: Carry On Smoking.

Going back to what you were saying Stanleymad, I think this has been true for ages...

My last office based role was at a Head office in Bury with about 600 people there. We used to have set cigarette breaks (obviously not all smoked), and one smoking corner. The amount of business that got done in that 10 min break was amazing. Everyone was relaxed (of course, they had nicotine!), you could speak to people face to face instead of leaving voicemails or emails, it was great. I probably got more internal work cleared up during the two daily breaks than I did in the rest of the 8 hours I was there!!

It even got to the point where non-smokers started coming outside as well. What was best was when the directors were in the boardroom trying to decide on a strategy for a new tender, i nipped out for a fag, caught up with purchasing manager, and we sorted the problem over a couple of regal!
