Bread Rip Off!
Just fancied some jam on toast.. opened a new loaf of bread and found the first 4 slices had bloody big holes in the corners !
Now if a loaf has around 25 slices I reckon I've been ripped off because the holes would make up a full slice, also it makes it hard work when spreading butter/jam on the toast because you have to work your way around the holes.. thus avoiding getting sticky jam on your worktop. |
Re: Bread Rip Off!
But the toast would be healthier - less bread calories and less jam. ;)

Re: Bread Rip Off!
25 slices? Might be 20 if its thick bread, trust willow to find a positive, nice one willow! I dont think the manufacturers can help the occasional hole, it is air pockets in the dough! The weight of dough that goes into the bread will probably be the same, so they have still spent the same money on products and baking time.

I reckon they employ someone at the Bakery to steal lumps from slices so as to make up another slice... but it is a skilled job, they do this without breaking the crust! |

Re: Bread Rip Off!
I have a bread machine and bake brioche every week
Because it uses less flour and 2 eggs, it has a light open texture and a lovely pale yellow colour - butter and marmalade sink into the holes - yummy |
