Because it automatically locks your doors as you set off driving to prevent someone opening one of the other doors at traffic light/junction and getting in you car.

What about taxis? they would not want it switched on :p

I bet many Mondeos have the feature switched off, some people find it a pain in the backside so don't want it. It was off when I got it.
