Re: a dead nite life

i agree tash, Accy is getting crap now with all the pubs closing down, i think we need a bar for Teenagers and a bar for the over 21's, something with a wide variety of music, not just dance/trance

ah a wine bar/nightclub might be more up market, it would certainly keep the riff raff away, so yeah thats a good idea

emamum 29-06-2008 21:00

Re: a dead nite life

its a good idea, we are lacking decent places to go in accy, theres some good ones on burnley, like the one that does 'fishbowl' drinks and one that does the coyote ugly dancing on the bar thing.. lots of special offers as well please :D:D:D

flashy 29-06-2008 21:01

tash why dont you have a wander around the pubs in other towns and see which pubs are packed out, then decide what you wanna do

not realy ther is alot of money ppl in accrington and its the normal evry day joes that say thay want something better and nicer than the box on the of the town .

Gayle 29-06-2008 21:05

Re: a dead nite life

The after work market is the one to go for at the moment, rather than night clubs - I think!

The people who have the money are older and more likely to want to go somewhere to have a drink quietly after work.

tashlife 29-06-2008 21:09

Re: a dead nite life

this is the problem all the qiuet places are closeing down for 1 reson no nite clubs allready done my home work alot of the pubs welcome a nite club to keep ppl in the town .

I think Gayles idea is ok but you should expand on it a bit and have some secluded tables for those having drinks after work with erm, work friends ;), when they should really be going home to their wives/husbands.

A few weeks ago when I was working away from home I saw two cars pull up outside the pub we were eating in. A bloke and a lady got out the two cars and came in for a meal. After their meal they went outside got in their cars and drove of in opposite directions :D

Re: a dead nite life

Assuming you dont want to go for a niche audience (ie lapdancing, casino etc) its a balance between profit and clientele. For example the "Money" people may not bother if a drink is a few pence more than a local pub, but will there be enough of them ? The heavy drinkers may spend a lot, but the margin on drinks would be less. It also depends on whether you expect custom from outside a close geographic area.

I think places which have 2 or more sections in do well, ie the old "bar and lounge" type mentality. You could have one area (usually downstairs) for the mass drinkers and the partiers, and the upstairs as the more sedate place. Food also entices people in if you can get 50-75 covers per night. If you are looking upmarket steer away from themed nights and quizes etc.

flashy 29-06-2008 21:24

Re: a dead nite life

when i was in my teens Accy was the place to be on a Saturday and Sunday night, it used to be packed out, over the years its gone down to nothing, anything is better than what we have at the moment, good on ya for trying tash

thats what Zebras has..... and its got the highest profit in colne (inc nelson, barlick etc) and is always heaving!

tashlife 29-06-2008 21:27

Re: a dead nite life

i have lookd in to all that and nite clubs have the bigest profit marg than any but over 21 is were to go as thay are were the money is and whom complian the most about accy

markuze 29-06-2008 21:39

Re: a dead nite life

..theres just so much more choice out of accrington nowadays..what with easy access to manchester etc 4 clubs etc..

I think alot of people like accy 4 the cheep drinks and the fact it kicks of on Thurs night. To me it seems like alot of people just want to get out of there faces. Although it looks like there trying to turn this around with wine bars and more restaurants.

..the places in accy r sooo small, using old shop space etc...like dancing in a cupboard that is if there is a place to dance...

..i think someone should bring back a roller rink. Like the one that was at Great Harwood..giving Accrington something different.

a place for over 21s with a dress code ie no freggin chavs.decent doormen who dont let idiots in except me:Dand spend half the night talkin to there chavvy mates and your halfway there...

Re: a dead nite life

Why would a nightclub work in Accy?? There is infact a "nightclub" in Accy.... Industry. People will not pay to go in a nightclub when 3 pubs are open till 3am.

I'm all for Accy getting better but I just dont think somewhere new will work. We all go to Burnley now. Its brilliant and I dont think anything will be able to compete with it.

Well if I was to open a bar/club it sure as hell wouldn't be in Britain.:(

Think you could open the best boozer, nightclub, winebar etc etc in accy or anywhere for that matter , but if the area dont have a decent walkabout area its a dying duck from day one ..
Just my personal opinion btw.....

Absolutely agree cashy. Its prob the worst time ever with the financial market as it is to start a business (Suicide tbh)

Gayle 30-06-2008 08:29

Re: a dead nite life

I've read through what I said and I hate coming over as negative so I apologise.

The problem with Accrington at the moment is that it's in limbo - it's waiting for all the mega investment to start having an impact. It's waiting for the Town Centre masterplan to kick in and for things to happen.

onlyme 30-06-2008 09:07

Re: a dead nite life

Right, you need something unique to get people back into Accrington. Theres is nothing that stands out, just bog standard pubs.

I think to get a club that will work, you need major cash. Look to what works outside of Accrington. Funny girls in Blackpool, for example is permamently heaving, Tiger Tiger in Manchester. You get an idea that works and you are looking at potential customers from Blackburn, Burnley etc so could make decent money.

I think that the only type of drinking establishment that might turn a profit, is an illegal smokeasy

accyman 30-06-2008 17:48

Re: a dead nite life

burnley and great harwood are great nights out and their success is due to the lack of trouble they have , accy on the other hand has been taken over by the scumbags so naturaly anyone looking for a good night out with little chance of getting a bottle in ther face or bashed over the head goes out of town

accrington used to be where everyone came to for a good night out especialy sunday nights , the pubs were heaving wall to wall and trouble was low , now the place is dead as a doornail because people got fed up of trouble and went elswhere

its ok opening a new night club with strict rules and decent plans but if people dont feel happy going around the pubs in the area around the club then they wont just come to accy for 1 good night club

accy was dead on its ass way before the smoking ban came in so the ban is irrelivant

most of the pubs in accy you wipe your feet on the way out
