Safe Speeds for Pushbikes
 

Spug is on the phone and has just told me what speed he went coming home from work today ........... 29.8 mph - on a pushbike - a touring one at that!!!! I told him he likes the new speedo he bought - he now knows what speed he's going at. Thing is he was in a 30 mph zone - so he was under it but he has no excuse now he has the speedo!!!! So when he gets a speeding ticket for going over he has no excuse now!!!! :p:D:p He slowed down when he realised he was running out of road .... and he had a gate, a footpath onto a bridge or a 90 degree corner!!!

He also just told me that he was on the flat - not going downhill like i thought!!!!

no insurance, no brakes to speak of, no tyres of any real consequence........

Cyclists exist in a grey area of the law; cyclists are subject to non-endorsable fines. For instance, if a cyclist was caught traveling over the speed limit by a police officer, due to the fact they do not require a driving licence, they would only be punishable by a £30 enforcement notice.

The law presumes a certain level of responsibility for drivers under the road user hierarchy which usually presumes priority in the following order:
1. Pedestrians
2. Non-motorised vehicles
3. Motorised vehicles

This means that, although cyclists generally travel in the carriageway with moving traffic, it the responsibility of motorised traffic to be aware of non-motorised traffic. However, given that cyclists are not covered in the safety of a moving metallic object, they should be aware that if they get hit by said metallic object they will be subject to dual leg removal - so not all good!

Neil... I doubt a touring bike is one that goes on a coach to Bognor Regis, takes photos of scenic views, gains memories of iconic British landmarks and buys ice-cream in a local cafe run by two old biddies with blue rinses...lol...

Could you imagine it - he sets off saturday ..... arrives here tuesday ..... he has to be back at work on thursday ... he has no chance!!!!:D:D:D
