Rhyddings NEW P.E kit

1 Attachment(s)
as well as the new uniform for this September Rhyddings have now informed us that they have brought a new P.E kit out too

now i know this may sound daft but when Reece started there in September last year i bought him a P.E top that was a couple of sizes too big for him so that he wold have at least 2 years wear out of it, they werent cheap so i figured this would be cost effective....but this isnt the case....

Got a letter from school yesterday saying that the new P.E kit CANNOT be ordered from Abbey Street and parents need to be in school tomorrow evening to view, order and pay for it....your kinda buggered if you have no money tomorrow arent you, or if you cant make it to school between 5-7pm

i aint a happy bunny to say the least

here's the new kit

don't the school realise that most people are having a tough time financially?

If Rhyddings want to bring in a new kit, then it should be phased in.....giving parents time to budget for the newer kit......not sprung on you like that.
I would not be happy either.

Good. I think the one they have now is very scruffy.

It's a poor do about the p.e kit though, more notice would have been nice, it would give you longer to pay for it too.

the thing with the new uniform though H is that it wont be in the shops till late August, no one has actually seen what it looks like yet so its not as if we can go out and buy bits of it....from what Reece has told me its black trousers and white shirt, but i cant be sure and neither can any other parent until we get word from the school about it

That is good news as they look very scruffy now, especially the girls.

It is not good though when you have to pay for it. When Accrington Academy changed uniform they helped parents by supplying some of it IIRC

Re: Rhyddings NEW P.E kit

yeah they did, but i suppose its just like buying your childs new uniform for the beginning of every school year....i ALWAYS buy Reece 2 NEW school uniforms every year anyway, even if last years still fits him(i always throw the previous years uniform away), i think old uniforms start looking tatty if worn for more than one year, in Blackburn we do get a grant of around £30 towards a new uniform but this year that will only just about pay for the blazer....i dont mind paying for anything, its just when we are told we have to buy the P.E kit at a certain time that i start objecting

i have always held teh opinion that if a school especialy a juniour school wants to enforce a school uniform then the school shoudl provide it

employees have to provide uniforms so why not schools

my biggest gripe is primary schools having uniforms , when i was a kid teh only juniour schools that had them were either private or snobby schools , all teh other schools went in jeans and t-shirt or whatever,
some juniour schools refuse to let your child wear a white undershirt if it dosnt have their logo on so instea dof paying £2 for it you end up paying a lot more because it has a certain logo on it

to an extent i can understand secondary schools having a uniform but there is no reason what so ever for a junior school to have a uniform

the best argumnent they have is that it keeps everyone the same , i dont want my child to be the same and also a scuffy kid is going to be the scruffy kid regardless of if its wearing a uniform or standard clothes

I disagree with you on this one.

Without school uniform you would get children turning up to school in all kinds of ridiculous, inappropriate clothing.

There would also be the issue of children being picked on for not wearing the 'in' branded clothing..........and can you imagine the fussing in a morning when they're trying to decide what to wear?

I am very strongly in favour of school uniform.

Because a place wasn't offered in a suitable school in the district. Are you saying parents should send their kids to a school that will not help their children attain the best results they are capable of but in the district in order to qualify for the grant? Thankfully parents still get some say in which school their kids attend and can judge what they think is the best option for their child.

Re: Rhyddings NEW P.E kit

Whilst I agree with kids wearing a school uniform I think it is a bit much to expect parents to have to buy a new PE kit when the child has one that is perfectly ok to use. Surely if the kit still fits they should be allowed to use it and buy the new one next year.

Eh ? How would they do that then ? This is just lazy parents not teaching the children the respect of handing over letters that are handed to them to give to their parents.

I think this is great that secondary schools now have got over the sweat shirt era and reverting to a smarter uniform. 'Tis a Business and Enterprise school afterall. Let's hope the teachers will enforce discipline quickly if anyone oversteps the rules or deviates from this new uniform.

In the end, it does work out much cheaper than finding non-uniforms for your children everyday ... no arguments, etc. . :D

I hope, that should St. Christophers project for a 6th form college become a reality, that they will also demand a uniform.

Do you expect the teachers to hand deliver the letter to your house? In their own time? Or do you expect them to stand the school gates and give them to the parents ... but not every parent takes their 15 year old to school .. when i was at school i went on my own after the age of 8 ... do you expect them to post it to every pupil .. 1051 x 30p (thats second class) .. every time there is a letter to go out .. £315.30 Wouldnt you agree that money is probably better spent on the pupils at the school ... not on postage when the kids can take a letter home. Its up to the parents to make sure the kids know that letters home from school is given that day ... And for your information ... my niece is a teacher of primary school children .. and teachers are not lazy ... they work very hard ...

Re: Rhyddings NEW P.E kit

I am aware that it doesnt help get the kit into the shops, but it certainly means that if it was to become available in any shops, the details could be passed onto parents during the summer months.

In the meantime, the kit is available to purchase from the suppliers website

Surridge Sport

note only shirt, shorts and socks are needed to be purchased, any others are optional extras.

As for the letter regarding parents coming into school to purchase the kit, i understand that this was purely done to enable the child to try on the kit for fitting purposes as the kit is made to order by Surridge.

Which presumably is going to cost the parent 15% more for VAT which the school could claim back if they provided them, not to mention postage costs which will probably add at least 10% more ?

No, I haven't had any letters at all, and I've searched his school bag - was there anything in the letters about 'extreme' hair styles? My son has been told they are not allowed anything other than natural hair colours from next year.

flashy 18-07-2009 09:21

Re: Rhyddings NEW P.E kit

got 2 of these through the post

Dear Parent/Carer

As the term draws to a close i am writing to you to express my thanks and those of the staff for your support over the last academic year. I would also like to take this opportunity to draw your attention to a number of points in relation to our new uniform, general appearance of students and mobile phones.

As you know our new uniform is intended to give Rhyddings students a smarter, more business-like image. To complement this we ask that you remind your son or daughter that only one small ear-stud is allowed in each ear and that no other body jewellery (rings/bars etc) are to be worn in any other visible piercings. Please discourage your son or daughter from having any visible piercings over the summer holidays to avoid problems on their return in September. We also ask that you ensure that any hairstyles are not extreme and that any hair colouring your son or daughter has is only natural colours (not bright colours such as red, green or blue)

Following an increasing number of problems caused exacerbated by the use of mobiles in school we have decided that from September mobile phones will be banned. Any mobiles phones seen around school premises will be confiscated for collection by parents/carers at the end of the day. Any student who needs, for example, to contact their parent urgently, will be allowed to use a school phone. As usual parents can contact their son/daughter by ringing school if necessary. Students are already aware that they should not bring items such as ipods and mp3 players into school.

Finally, we will be returning in September with a new Rhyddings uniform. At the time of writing this letter we are still awaiting delivery of our ties from Trutex. They were promised for 1st July and we are obviously concerned that they are late. We hope that they will arrive in school today (Tuesday) or tomorrow. As soon as they do arrive we will notify all students. To simplify selling the ties in school and in recognition of the delay by our suppliers we have reduced the price to £5, which is below cost price. Ties will be sold in school until Friday. In addition school is open throughout most of the Summer holidays and ties can be bought from Summer School staff who will be on site usually between 9am - 12 noon. Please ring the bell outside reception for attention. Blazers will be available from both Abbey St. Stores, Accrington and Whittakers, Blackburn from 15 August.

Cheers for that flashy, thank god he's only there a couple more months. I have no time for anyone who feels the need to attempt to make people into clones and don't respect individuality.

PS. I also take extreme offense to the letter as I'm a professional business manager who has purple streaks in her hair and doesn't wear a suit!

This school uniform thing was going on when I was at school, having to buy from designated suppliers, when I went to the Holy Family we could only get the uniform from certain shops, my mother got mine from J B Smiths which was down on the corner of Queens street, or near enough, there were shops in Accy too but never bothered with them

Reece has been badgering me to buy his p.e kit online saying he will be in trouble when he goes back if he hasnt got it

£18.39 ended up costing me £29.23 all because i HAD to buy it online, thats just the basic p.e kit, shorts t-shirt and socks

just reading a note at the bottom of a letter we got it says.....if for any reason you are unhappy with your purchase, return it to us within 28 days of receipt in an unworn/unused condition for a full refund or exchange Please note this does not apply to incorrect fitting of garment

so basically if i've ordered the wrong size then its tough cos i wont get my money back or an exchange...GRRRRRR

They did Hassy High's pe kit last year too, I ordered online easily enough, then opted to get it delivered to school, didn't get it till mid Oct, came in 2 shipments and the sizing is very hit and miss.Having said that the stuff is good quality and some of it will do again this year.

flashy 05-08-2009 20:44

Re: Rhyddings NEW P.E kit

it said on the letter that if we bought it online we couldnt get it delivered to school, what P.E kit did she use from September till she got it?

lindsay ormerod 05-08-2009 20:56

Re: Rhyddings NEW P.E kit

Had to use her old one! wasn't shelling out any more money! And to be honest they hardly used the Surridge stuff, hers was a zip up top and a sweatshirt, not really needed for the indoor stuff. Zip up top I got small adult size and it's still too big for her now!

lindsay ormerod 05-08-2009 21:03

Re: Rhyddings NEW P.E kit

Just rechecked her letter from school, providing I order before 12th August it is free delivery to school in first week of term, other than that it's £8.50 delivery charge. Trackie pants just have Surridge on them as do socks and shorts, everything else has school logo.

flashy 06-08-2009 04:55

Re: Rhyddings NEW P.E kit

now mine said exactly the same, free delivery to school if you order before the 12th BUT it does not apply to online orders, i havent a clue what they are on about because other than getting it on that specific day back in July you can only buy it online

flashy 17-08-2009 07:24

Re: Rhyddings NEW P.E kit

its now been 2 weeks since i ordered that P.E kit, still i have no P.E kit to show for it, was looking at the Surridge website just now and i clicked on 'my order history' and it says that i have never ordered anything

Order History [shanida]
No Orders Found

i tried emailing them (to 2 different email addresses) and got this...

Delivery to the following recipients failed.

[email protected]

and

Delivery to the following recipients failed.

[email protected]

yet as i showed earlier in this thread i got a confirmation email from them when i 'ordered' the kit

does anyone else think its dodgy?

BERNADETTE 17-08-2009 09:56

Re: Rhyddings NEW P.E kit

Is there anything in their blurb saying how long it takes for orders to be delivered? Would have thought two weeks was more than enough time to get an order out. It looks like they have changed their e-mail address so yes it does look a bit dodgy.

flashy 17-08-2009 10:28

Re: Rhyddings NEW P.E kit

nothing in the letter about how long it takes Bernie

BERNADETTE 17-08-2009 10:50

Re: Rhyddings NEW P.E kit

Just the fact that the e-mails never went through makes the whole thing sound dodgy to me. Hope I'm proved wrong.

when i got the 'invoice' emailed to me i saved it, so i decided to give that a go .....i got this back

Morning

Please note we need 10 working days to complete orders, your order should be leaving production early this week.

Many thanks,

Emma Hudson

when i originally ordered the kit the money went straight out of my account, then the day after it was back in my account again, haven't a clue what that was all about, its still there anyway, i'm assuming they will take the money out again WHEN the order is dispatched

i'm fed up with all this now, school has a lot to answer for, i'm just wondering what people without a bank account will do to get their kids kits

lindsay ormerod 17-08-2009 20:12

Re: Rhyddings NEW P.E kit

Money went out of my account about 24 hours after I placed the order. After I finally figured out how to pay, putting Maestro under the paypal heading was a little misleading.....

just had to buy Reece another new Blazer, it's the same size i bought him 18 months ago and it's gone up from £26.50 to £33, same size/style, how can they justify putting something up in price so much in such a short space of time?

next time i am not going to buy him a 'Rhyddings' blazer, i'm going to buy him a plain black one, the 'Rhyddings' one has an emblem on the pocket which the kids hate having on show so they tuck the pocket in so no one can see it, so whats the point in forking out all that money for a 'specialised' one?

a couple of years ago the headteacher of haslingden junior school when she took over made everybody buy a new uniform for the simple reason that she did not like the colour red and was more partial to the colour purple. There are a lot of people on a tight budget but as long as her whim for colour choice was met she didnt care.It ended up with children who were only 6 months from leaving to high school having to have new jumpers bought that they would not use again and a playground full of kids wearing either red or purple tops to which the parents would be pestered as to why their child was not yet wearing purple or their child sent home with letters asking why.

i think haslingden high have just introduced a peice of kit to their uniform or p.e kit that cant be purchased anywhere else and is double the price you would normaly pay.Its a disgrace how much control schools are allowed over where you purchase your childs uniform from.Schools used to have fund raising events if they needed some extra cash but now they just take the easier route of ripping off teh parents

To be honest the price of cotton has risen within the last 12 months. However the price is shocking for parents.

schools are deliberatly requesting items that they know can not be purchased elsewhere and adding a lot of extra money to the cost for an item that is half the price elsewhere but dosnt have their logo on or somthing. When i was at school as long as our tie was the correct one there were no badges unless you bought a moorhead blazer with one on or purchased one to be sewn onto the one you purchased but it was not a requirement. These days they put a logo on everything and there is no reason to especially on things like p.e kits.I could understan putting teh school crest on a blazer but as far as the other items are concerened it dosnt serve any purpous having the school logo on at all.

my mam used to get my trousers and blazer from one shop i cant recall and the jumeprs were always bought from the blind shop and were very durable. We were required to by a specific top and colour representing our house but were never issued with letters demanding we purchased a specific item from the school or we would be sent home for not complying to the schools dress code.I remeber the shirts and trousers been trutex or somthing but as we got to 4th and 5th year people started wearing different brands or more fashionable lables but kept to the schools colour requirements. Its a pitty there isnt as much effort put into disciplining kids as what there is into what they wear.A kid can smack another kid in teh face and get put in teh quiet room to do its work yet dare to wear an unofficial item of clothing and the kid can be sent home
