Blackpool sea front
 

Reece and i ventured to Blackpool yesterday, it was a beautiful day and i was amazed how much the sea front has changed in the last few months, it looks lovely now, gone are the dreary long old steps to the beach, in its place we have a really nice wall (sea barrier) and loads of steps, its looks really attractive.

On the prom they have a beach away from the beach, its kinda cool, its a cordoned off area where the kids can play with the sand away from the sea, i think its a wicked idea

the whole front has been transformed and it looks really nice

Those bags of sand in pictures 4,5 & 6 makes it look like your in a builders yard

that it might Neil but i think its a good idea for kids who dont like the sea, or parents who are afraid of the water.....possibly

they also have nets up for 'beach' volleyball

Us kids used to play dare on those steps when i lived there, but a little further up past Butlins hotel, at the top of the steps a big round wall which turned the water back. Gateways where every two hundred yards and with a neep tide on the go running at 32ft it used to be a fair dash from one gate to another. One day out of the corner of my eye a monster wave was up in the air above me, my friends shouting run, run, i knew i wasnt going to make it and from a standing jump tried to get on the wall and clung there like a limpet. The wave landed on me, my chums had legged it as this wave was going over the wall, when it receded i climbed down and made it the to the gate. I was full of sand and seaweed and i was due back at school in minutes. My teacher never noticed thankfully as i pulled bits out of my hair all day.

lol it wasnt the woman in the burka i was taking pics of Jay, it was obviously my child being a prize plonker on the ramp with his bike, yes we took our bikes to Blackpool, as we often do

It is much nicer up there, they have done similar work at Cleveleys, and the kiddies rides are back, downside is, the idiots have been out with the spray paints already.

I don't like that comment Jaysay, what's "token" about a woman with her family standing on the sand at Blackpool? Would you have made the same comment if it had been a white woman in shorts? I doubt it.:rolleyes:

I remember wearing ankle length black and a large sarong over my head and shoulders during a holiday in Malta in August.
For some of us, sunblock is not enough - don't make presumptions about that photo.

When i first looked at the photo i saw a bicycle in the surf and thought about the chain and what state it would be in a day later without a rinse and some oil. I never for one minute thought it must be boiling hot as well seeing as someone is covered up, i dont see "sunblock" no matter how hard i look at it.

...it helps keep the beach free of effluent
other than that officially released at high tide

Effluent was always a problem for us nightliners along with used sanitory and sexual throwaway items, but i would have hoped that is not the case today, a used condom wrapped around a nice cod was not very appetising. Do the bags stay there whilst the tide comes in and sorry to repeat myself but what are they for they cant be Jewson surplus can they?

those bags are NOT on the beach, they are on the prom, they are used to put the sand on the prom....its got nothing at all to do with whats in the sea

Ah another look at the shots and yes i can see the pavement depth from the railings to the trams has shrunk. So you can play on the beach when the tide is in or as in earlier posts if you dont like the water i suppose. I lived there for ten years and that area would have throngs of people with ice creams and candy floss weaving in and out amongst the deckchairs which where stored along there. Quite mental shots of the shelters up at Cleveleys, i slept up that way from Gynn to Fleetwood in my homeless days and cant imagine sleeping in the new ones, bit draughty in the winter i imagine but all town councils have anti-homeless policies to keep you on the move these days. Apart from the tramps in Blackpool town centre, Pete the dockerman and Smelly Sid (not to his face) and a few old ex sea dogs up in the Fleetwood area the homeless population was small, Fleetwood had the only soup kitchen which was really the Seamans Mission, luckily my youth swung my entry on the times i visited it, usually in the winter. A mug of tea with a bowl of soup and a wedge of bread in the company of some grey haired sea dogs, such luxuries and now we have sand on the promenade, what progress they have made.
