Non smokers avert your eyes.

My first attempt at a roll up ... due to purely economic reasons you understand.
Can only get better, can't I ? Attachment 14251 |
Re: Non smokers avert your eyes.
lol katex... good try!! did you try and smoke it as well?? my roll ups where always too loose and it all fell out or burnt down or too tight to smoke :D

Re: Non smokers avert your eyes.
I have been smoking roll ups for a year now.
I use a rolling machine - I have never tried to make one without it. I found that I still craved factory made cigarettes for many months after. I think the addiction is partly due to addiction to the synthetic junk they add to tobacco. |
Re: Non smokers avert your eyes.
Lol, I could never rol them, even before Parkinson's.
My fingers were nibble enough to attach a thousand crysals to a flashy frock, but I never could manage a decent roll up. Perhaps if you slip into a suede bikini, pop off to the nearest botanic gardens, and try rolling them on your thigh, you might have more success. :D |
Re: Non smokers avert your eyes.
Another tip for you - get a cigarette holder - it stops the paper sticking to your lips.
..but don't get one with a tar filter - they get bunged up so fast that you will spend more on tar filters than fags. Also you will need pipe cleaners |

Can only get better, can't I ? Why not smoke a pipe. Its not a men only thing, and pipe tobacco is a a lot cheaper than cig tobacco. At the same time get a deer stalker hat, then you can pretend to be my great uncle Sherlock.:theband: Retlaw. |
Re: Non smokers avert your eyes.

Re: Non smokers avert your eyes.
If the reason you are smoking 'roll-ups' is economic.......why don't you give up the fags altogether and save yourself a packet? (OK, it's a daft question).
|
Re: Non smokers avert your eyes.
Well done. I wouldn't like to even try, looks very easy when seeing someone else doing it but i bet it's pretty hard.
|
Re: Non smokers avert your eyes.
Get yourself one of those little machines.
My granddad always had roll ups and he also used to save the bits that he didn't smoke and after every 10 or so ciggies he had enough to make another one. |

Someone made a comment last night that roll-ups are not very ladylike ... umph ... why not ??... as long as I don't dangle it out of my mouth. MargaretR's cigarette holder idea appeals to me... posh like.. tee hee. Thanks folks. |

Thanks for sharing that picture. It looks like one of Nora Batty's socks. :D |
Re: Non smokers avert your eyes.
You should also invest in one of those little cigarette cases so that you can role enough for the evening before you go out so that you're not rolling them when you're in the pub.

Re: Non smokers avert your eyes.
Kate.......smoking is a life style choice......and who am I to suggest that you give it up?
My suggestion was purely for economic reasons....you would save a lot of money. |

Thanks Lynx .. will take a look around the pound shops. |
Re: Non smokers avert your eyes.
I went with my sister in law to do her shopping one day and was horrified when she paid £90 for a weeks supply of fags(and this was a couple of years ago)she did tell me not to look at the cost......boy was I glad I never picked up that habit.

Benson and Hedges I think they were. |
Re: Non smokers avert your eyes.
That is some serious smoking even for two people.
|
Re: Non smokers avert your eyes.
Getting better .. just done me third one. Even though don't think put enough tobacco in it as paper kept setting alight (think I've lost a couple of eyelashes) and is going to cost me more in lighters to keep it alight ... will persevere.
|
Re: Non smokers avert your eyes.
I found that I had that problem - keeping it lit - and solved it by letting it dry out a little outside the pouch before use.
I now buy tobacco grown in Kendal which arrives in a dryer state than Golden Virginia, with the added bonuses - cheaper, and more for your money because I pay for tobacco and not the weight of the moisture. https://www.thebackyshop.co.uk/index...ex&cPath=22_32 |

Re: Non smokers avert your eyes.
Thanks for that Accyman .. surprising what's on the web ... :)
Discovered my problem here ... wasn't doing the rolling bit ... Doing a bit better .. my problem is the last bit where you roll the paper under the other ... think my thumb nail is a bit too long ... :D |
Re: Non smokers avert your eyes.
Just to bore you .. an update.
Going backwards again, have discovered you cannot roll that paper if your hands are really cold, which mine appeared to be this afternoon. Need slightly sweaty hands. Had to have a couple of normal ones whilst making cock-ups. Did learn something new though. Went to shop for new papers (having to keep chucking 'em) ... new assistant under supervision, asked for "those paper things you wrap around tobacco" .. assistant first grabbed tobacco, then filters. Finally youth behind me muttered "skins" ... all became clear. Learnt a new word ... just don't fancy asking for a packet of skins though...:D |
Re: Non smokers avert your eyes.

Re: Non smokers avert your eyes.
Use a cheap and cheerful Zig Zag rolling device with swan filters and Zig Zag papers.
Device £1....Tips 450 for £1...Papers 500 for £1. (Darwen Market) Beats the hell out of tailor made fags. |

Re: Non smokers avert your eyes.
well I think its a great first attempt Kate well done.
I went onto roll ups when I was smoking purely financial but after a while didnt like the real cigs anymore so stayed with roll ups all the time. So what I did whenever we went out I would spend 20 mins in the afternoon rolling my cigs and I always had a packet to keep the rollys in. It just saved me having to roll whilst out.. Must admit though I hated smoking without tips. always made me cough like a miner. Still im glad I dont have to bother anymore.. been two lovely years smoke free now.. Ahhhhh!!! |
Re: Non smokers avert your eyes.
ive been smoke free for a year now :D:D

I found them awful to use. never could grasp it. I just used a filter and rolled them by hand so much easier I though. And the papers fro those ready made things always left me with a cough. |
Re: Non smokers avert your eyes.

Got a roll machine ... absolutely wonderful, perfect roll-ups. It is just a cheap plastic one .. suppose not difference really is there, apart from not being as sturdy, as a metal one ? Have now managed to discipline myself to 2 to 1 ... normal/roll ups, and seem to have reduced my consumption by 25 %. Can't just calculate the monetary saving yet, but would think ballpark, must be around 35% ? Am quite enjoying them too, seems to suppress my need for longer periods in between fags, even though a very mild tobacco ... SUCCESS !! :D http://planetsmilies.net/smoking-smiley-5417.gif |
