50 technological advances your children will laugh at - Telegraph
i read the comments at the bottom of this .. and one stood out for me .. From someone who lives inside a computer, seemingly welded to a mobile telephone my boss seems to have on speed dial as soon as I put it down, one thing will never, ever be replaced by technology. The off switch. |
Re: 50 techno advances your kids will laugh at
Only a couple of days ago I was discussing 20th century technological advances with Nik. My paternal grandparents both died during WW1 and neither of them would have been in a car, used a phone, maybe not switched on an electric light, heard a radio. My grandmother wouldn't have known a vacuum cleaner or a washing machine, certainly not a fridge and possibly not even a gas oven.
When I started work for the Inland Revenue, 50 years ago, everything was done by hand. Calculators were unheard of, so everyone had to be able to add up, and what was a computer if you please? Schools didn't allow kids to use biros because they were prone to leaving blotches and every bus in the land had a conductor to take your fare and give you a ticket. It's a totally different world and I'm sure my grandchildren will look back and laugh, like I do, in another 50 years. |
