Did Your Parents Ever Make You Something 'Special'?

When I was about 4 my Dad made me a wooden wheelbarrow complete with wooden wheel with nicely shaped spindles.
Oh, the hours of fun spent walking by his side carting materials to his allotement as he skipped weight free by my side.

I think that is what did my back in!

Yes when we were small and money was scarce,my dad made us a game called bagatelle for xmas,,,,it was only made of wood and nails ,but me and my brother thought it was wonderful and played many an hour with it,,,there was a lot of hours and love making the game,he had to do it when we were in bed when he was probably knackered, they worked very long hours in them days,I wonder what today's kids would make of home made toys!,,, ,

XXX to your Dad.
:D

By the way, the piccy is only an example, his wood working skills weren't perfect to anyone except a 4 year old child.

Re: Did Your Parents Ever Make You Something 'Special'?

One morning in January about 1969 I was woken by a hellish hammering noise which went on and on. It was still dark outside so I did not get up but listened to Junior Choice on my (single) earplug to drown out the noise. Eventually it stopped and I went downstairs for breakfast. It was very very cold (no central heating) and incredibly bright as I passed the front door with high up mini window. It had snowed a lot in the night and this was the reason for the hammering noise. My dad had got up at some unearthly hour and made me a wooden sled; metal runners on the bottom and all. I think I used it 2 or 3 times altogether mostly on that bit of spare ground opposite Springhill school.
