BBC News - Ban on Valentine's Day cards at school

He said: "Ashcombe is a primary school and they believe that children under the age of 11 are still emotionally and socially developing and therefore cards declaring love can be confusing.

Oh happy days I remember my first encounter when I was 7 or 8.She sat next to me in class and was really nasty and horrible to me.

However I got my own back in the playground when we had a game of leap-frog.:D.

from this weeks accy observer .. and the big debate this week is entitled Is love in the air this year?

"And in an interesting twist to the debate we asked Hyndburn Council Leader Councillor Peter Britcliffe for his thoughts. He said As a town who hosts a large card manufacturer i dont think we should worry about days like this being too commercialised. We should support the company by buying a card. I certainly wouldnt mind if someone would like to help me beat the seven card total i received when i was 18."

So who's sending Cllr Britcliffe a valentines card ..:D:D:D:D:D

Not one that I'd be happy bringing kids into, if I'm honest. All the traditions that I grew up with in the 80s are being eroded by the PC brigade who are determined to try and turn us into an overly safe, multicultural society against our wishes.

We used to really live on the edge in the 1980s. I can remember playing conkers unprotected, riding my bike without a crash helmet and drinking water straight from the tap. We won't see the like of those heady days again.

by the way a little something to read ..

Valentine's Day has spawned celebrations of love beyond western culture. In Japan and Korea, Valentine's has become almost an obligation for women to give chocolates, known as giri-choco, to all of their co-workers. A reciprocal day on 14th of March known as White Day has emerged in recent times whereby men are supposed to thank those who remembered them on Valentine's Day with white chocolate or marshmallows, hence white day. In Korea there is an additional Black Day, held the following month on the 14th of April, for less fortunate men who did not receive gifts on Valentine's Day to gather together to eat Jajangmyun, Chinese style black noodles topped with a black sauce.

I always thought that a valentine card was a request for courtship.
It is a bit odd to send one to someone you are already courting or married to.
