Re: postman pat

Go on windylad, I’m intrigued. Why are we going to get in to a discussion at our age about liking Postman Pat? “I’m 4 years older than you”

I can almost guarantee that that statement will get the ball rolling for you, or Black and White Cat if we kick it hard enough.

Forgive me windy, I’m not taking the pat out of you, but why Postman Pat.

Buy the way, I was more you rhubarb & custard type.

I liked Rhubarb. Bob Godfrey is one of the best cartoonists ever.

Re: postman pat

I would have thought Beatrix Potter and friends would be more appropiate for a more
upmarket discussion..

Re: postman pat

Nah mate, Beatrix Potter is a bit too girly.

Re: postman pat

The theme tune for Rhubarb and Custard was a noisy blast wasn't it? NA-NA-NA-NAAA! NA-NA-NA-NAAA! NA-NA-NA-NA-NA-NAAA! Great stuff!

Magic Roundabout made me feel claustrophobic! Loads of my student Uni. mates were into watching it but I couldnt face it - made me feel ill!

What about 'Battle of the Planets'? The first manga cartoon and it had the most camp villain in thigh length purple boots - very confusing for a five-year old!

Anyone remember M.A.S.K? It was on on Saturdays as part of Wacaday with the Mallet loon?!

Has this post anything to do with the new cartoons of Postman Pat that have just been made? Did you know that Asians have now moved into Pats village, is this another case of the "Politically Correct" brigade moving into kids programmes?

I suppose it was only a matter of time, It can't be long before Postman Pat is identified as a differently sexed single parentwith learning issues and his cat is discovered to be having under age sex, substance abusing and is slapped with an ASBO.

No one has mentioned those two superstars of children's entertainment Bill and Ben the Flowerpot men. The originals of course, not these new-fangled coloured imitations.

Re: postman pat

Ohh! Bill and Ben!
(cue: waves of nostalgia.)

I loved bill and ben, I wanted to live in that garden. What about Tales from the Riverbank and Do Not Adjust Your Set.

What was that thing my kids used to watch? - "The Wibberly Wobberly Way" or something equally inane.

Another star was Captain Pugwash. The characters were voiced by Peter Hawkins, who also did Bill & Ben.

Re: postman pat

That was the one with Seaman Staines

Re: postman pat

Apparently that was all a myth:

Evening Standard correspondent Victor Lewis-Smith wrote several years later:

'It'll never stand up in court,' I hear you cry, but stranger cases have flourished. I remember voicing much the same opinion a decade ago when John Ryan's solicitor threatened legal action against the newspaper I was then working for, after I had erroneously (and I stress erroneously) suggested that the characters he'd created for his Captain Pugwash series weren't quite as innocent as they'd first seemed back in the 1950s.
Unwittingly repeating a folk myth that had been passed down through generations of schoolboys, I'd stated that the dramatis personae included such nautical naughties as Master Bates, Seaman Stains and Roger the Cabin Boy, and that 'Pugwash' was Australian slang for a form of oral sex. The matter seemed trivial, but an apology was made, Mr Ryan's honour was satisfied and two sets of parasitical, low-life libel lawyers thus pocketed yet more easy (and thoroughly ill-deserved) dosh.

I would'nt take Victor Lewis Smith to seriously...he makes thinhs up in his colume every day (He's the TV critic)....Pugwash is the Australian slang term for masturbate.

Moving more up to date all is not what it seems with the Teletubbies: http://www.angelfire.com/mt/montalk/teletubbies.html

Acrylic-bob 16-08-2004 07:01

Re: postman pat

Where did you find that, Yerself? It explains a lot. That's it, no more Teletubbies! Acrylic-Biff, the terrier with attitude, will just have to find something more wholesome with which to occupy his time. It also goes some way to explaining Mrs Acrylic-Bob's erratic and eccentric behaviour of late, and to think that I put it down to a combination of E-numbers and the Atkins Diet. How could I be so blind?
