Funeral Music

Since Kate started these 'death wishes', let us be morbid again:)

what music do you want at your funeral?

Will we get the usual mush - Sinatra 'I did it my way' or will some of you get the congregation chuckling.

I recall a memorable funeral where nothing but ABBA was played.

Pink Floyd 'I have become comfortably numb' seems apt:D

Re: Funeral Music

My aunt died recently at 100 + years old.
They played an Elvis song as we went into the church and there were champagne glasses and a bottled of champagne on the coffin for us all to have a drink on her.

When the vicar chap had said his bit a musician sat by the coffin and sang "She'll have to go" it was an old Jim Reeves song but he sang "He'll have to go.

We then went orf to the big fire place and sent or on her way.
She had planned all this in advance, best of all was the big wad she left over the bar in the Top Brink Todmorden so we could all get blathered while a CD we had made of all her favourite music was played. A good day out was had by all, except my old aunty.

That is brilliant Gremlin. We went to a cremation here in Tenerife last Thursday. I was well impressed to find that there was a bar in there. It was good for all family and friends to meet up and have a drink or two before the service. Nerves were settled a little.

Jerusalem was the chosen hymn which I quite like myself but I might change my mind in the future. Drinks on the coffin is a definite!!

Where in Tenerife are you Junetta? we spend a lot of time there as do my parents who are there as we speak.

Re: Funeral Music

I've been to a couple of 'interesting' funerals in recent years. One involved the Back to the Future theme and 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' by Nirvana, while another played the Doctor Who closing theme as the curtains closed. Both were completely appropriate to each person and it really helped to lighten the mood.

In contrast, when my mother-in-law was cremated we had quite sombre music and we were all glad of the chance to express a bit of grief.

I'm hoping mine will be about 50 years off but I want it to be the biggest ****-take ever and this has to feature somewhere:

YouTube - Dead,Dead,Dead

A mate of mine put it on his answerphone and the first person to ring up was his nan....oops.

Re: Funeral Music

Can't come up[ with a final choice - torn between "Jerusalem" (England, for all thy faults I love thee still), and Nat King Cole - "When I Fall in Love". My first love and I used to listen to that on a wind-up gramophone, so it has very special meaning. She will probably decide anyway:-)

Re: Funeral Music

1 - Coffin goes through the curtains.

2 - Corner of curtain is lifted by end of coffin re-entering crematorium.

3 - Coffin disappears.

4 - Repeat steps one and two in time to music, three times.

5 - Coffin retreats behind curtain.

6 - Coffin re-enters from behind curtain, and lid opens and closes in time to music five times.

7 - False leg flies up from opened coffin, giving perfect high kick.

8 - Coffin finally closes, and goes behind the closing curtain.

9 - Cue audience applause.
