I remember a black and white commercial with a little boy and a matchbox saying it "was Harry the Spiders coming out party" but don't for the life of me remember what it was advertising, anyone got any clues? this one's haunted me for years!!!!

Very nearly Doug, you were on the right track. Here you go.

You'll be thrilled with NORWAY SILD,
You'll be thrilled with NORWAY SILD,
You'll be thrilled with NORWAY SILD.

Yes, you'll be thrilled with NORWAY SILD, they're delicious and only a shilling a tin.

This was a little jingle also. It was probably one of the first adverts on British TV. I remember the richer kids at school singing the jingle in the first weeks after the introduction of ITV. We only had BBC at our house. I would estimate this was 1955.
You're looking for two words. One is the product and the other is the manufacturer. This stuff is definitely still around!

--------'-, --------'-, they make the finest -----,
It is the brightest and the lightest that's --------'- -----,
Your pastries are tasty, your cakes are rising too,
And what's the ----- that never varies, that's --------'- too.

I remember the ad, but not what it was about , he was a grubby little tike holding the match box up to his face.

One that was a favourite of mine was from the early to mid 60s. It was a line drawn cartoon about a type of fuel and ended in a little ditty that went.

Smoke won’t get in your eyes ---- ----.
