When does Christmas officially begin for you?

Some say it begins when they have see the Coca Cola advert. Others when they have the tree up.

Mine is when we have bought the tree (which will be today) and that lovely smell of pine it gives to the lounge. I also love the Christingle & Crib service in Church.

Re: When does Christmas officially begin for you?

I'm not too sure........I buy next years Christmas cards and wrapping paper in the January sales.......I buy presents through out the year....this helps ease the financial strain........I start the wrapping of presents late October/November.......I am in the process of writing cards now.......I have found that as I have matured(got older) it is less easy to get into the Christmas spirit.
I suppose Christmas proper, starts on Christmas Eve with the cooking preparations.

I think my husband would think me a very poor wife if I gave him a pot noodle for his Christmas dinner......and although I don't think it will be Turkey, we will have a roast of some description......so there will be sprouts to peel, carrots to cook, stuffing to make, plates to warm...you know the kind of thing.
Hang on though...if you are having just a pot noodle perhaps you don't!

Re: When does Christmas officially begin for you?

Christmas starts for me on Christmas Eve, when all the preparation is done and I can then enjoy the time.

I always have a large family gathering at my house and on Christmas Eve set the Tables and get everything ready for our special day together. Once all the relatives have arrived back in the area from all over the country and everything is prepared, presents all wrapped and the log fire burning then I know it's Christmas. :)

It starts for me when the first carol singers ring my door bell and upon opening the said door they start their inharmonious noise.

It ends about 10 seconds later when I tell them to buggar off home.

Don't really have a specific point, a lot depends on how we feel really, but I'd say from about the 16th onwards maybe then we'll put up the tree.

It's all humbug, Jaysay. I went out earlier to pick up a few bits and pieces; normally, sunday shopping is quite civilised. I get what I want and then usually have a glass of champoo and a bit of natter. Today was an absolute nightmare.

The place was full of little brats - thousands upon thousands of them creating havoc everywhere and to make matters worse the precinct bar had been turned over to kiddies face painting. That, on top of some useless grotto (although I must say some of the fairy queen girls were cracking looking wenches)

So I went to the pub round the corner but even that was packed with squealing kids. I could not even get through the door. It's going to take me a week to recover.

Re: When does Christmas officially begin for you?

No, he doesn't Neil...though he can cook('how many lumps of gravy do you want with that?' he has been known to ask)but he does help with the washing up......sometimes he is infuriatingly efficient at this. What I mean by that is, he will wash up stuff (like my turning tongs) before I have finished using them.

And he is super delivery boy(asbestos fingers)......he takes a cooked roast dinner to both my elderly neighbours while I dish up ours.

My cat isn't a christian any more than I am.
Pampering should be an all year practice - not just an annual event.
I don't approve of the practice of lying to children (or anyone else)

So.......................................HUMBUG !!!!!:p;)
