The irony is Dave, is that in the past the Council has spent money on consultants, identifying shopping trends in Hyndburn. We could have got this lad doing it for nowt.

What........? None of you lot remember Veevers? What about Isobel Winters, Prices bake shop, Loofe's for sartorial elegance.
Veevers was a very upmarket grocers shop........they used to sell 'Gold Dish' Jaffa juice in bottles with a Royal blue and gold label.....that was the object of my affections, but alas, at two shillings and sixpence a bottle, there was no chance of me actually tasting the stuff.
They also sold little tins of 'Gold Dish' lunch tongue....didn't fancy that much......my mother always said I had enough tongue(and cheek).

I can't believe that no-one remembers the shop. It was where the first shop is at the market end of the TSB row of shops.

I once told the shop owner that he was 'desirable'. (handsome)
This was in the presence of his partner and I had no ulterior motive to 'possess' him.
Being old enough to be his mother I was safe saying so, and if you find a person pleasant to behold there is no harm in saying so.

Isobel Winters sold High School uniforms at exorbitant prices.
I got the 'hand me downs' from an older girl on the next street.

Yes Margaret, I remember it being the place where you got your school uniform....except I didn't....like you we couldn't afford to shop there.......went to the Co-op on Blackburn Rd........don't think it was that much cheaper there, but the advantage was the 'divi'....half a crown in the pound in those days

Would Number 6 Peel Street be Lloyds TSB Bank now ? It was a drapers shop in the late 1800,s.
