An excellent bit of film. Brought back some memories.
Seeing the spinning mules and the weaving looms.
Well made JediMaster.

Would the steam engine be called Peace and run the Queens Mill?

If so I turned a fit the main bearing bolts in the Wakes weeks holiday 1961 during a overhaul.

Nice bit of film, every little bit of our long gone cotton trade should be recorded.

EXCELLENT. The wording of the spoken lines - first class. I would have preferred it if the participants had not been seen to be reading ,but that is a minor matter. I specially liked the piston moving in and out when there was a line being repeated.

i think Jedi said it was done at Queens Mill and Helmshore Gremlin

Re: Weave a future, hope and peace

just found this thread, it was done at both helmshore and queen street the poem itself was cowritten by the whole group and finalised by the wonderful Tony Walsh http://longfella.co.uk/ the young people involved all come from difficult backgrounds so getting them on camera in the first place was a real challenge and achievement for them. This was a great project run by REELmcr http://www.reelmcr.co.uk/ and was a pleasure to work on (even if I ended up in the film)

Re: Weave a future, hope and peace

thanks cashy but as i said the real credit goes to the young people of burnley and the guys at reelmcr who overcame great odds (including a break-in and having most of their equipment and footage stolen) to make and star in the film. There is also a full documentary done by the kids to be premiered nearer christmas. The whole point of the project is to put these local kids back in touch with their local heritage thier group and individual achievements on this have been amazing. Here is some more footage of the work the kids did http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U3dIih2jVTE

Just thought you might like to see the next installment of the project. The premiere of the documentary is to be shown at the Burnley Mechanics on the 5th Feb at approx. 3/4pm and as far as I am aware this is to be a free event. Along with the premiere there is also to be an exhibition of the project photography by yours truly, consisting of a 3 piece collage exhibition depicting firstly, the backdrop to the project, secondly, the people of the project and thirdly, the industry around the project. There will also be a digital exhibition of the project photography which I am currently working on.

So here for your exclusive viewing are the drafts of the 3 collages.

Please bear in mind that these are compressed drafts and not the final pieces yet, as there is still some tweaking to do!

Hope you enjoy!

I've been given the final date for the premiere event for the project which has been moved to the 26th feb at 6pm. The venue is to be the Burnley Mechanics theatre. All are welcome to attend as this is a free event and well worth a look at all the work that the young people put into the project and would be great for anyone interested in the heritage of industrial Lancashire.

Hope to see you there.

Excellent. Very thought provoking. It brought back memories of when I lived in Helmshore. I am researching my family tree and like most Lancashire families almost all the children and adults worked in the mill. Projects like this are so important to show us what their lives were like.

Re: Weave a future, hope and peace

Enjoyed that very much. Only "watched" the 1st quarter of an hour but had it on to listen to the whole and caught bits of the rest on video as I was spring cleaning the living-room!
The girl Melissa was quite transformed from being innarticulate and pretty ignorant on the subject at the beginning.
Love the vintage clips with plummy accents -MEnchester instead of Manchester...etc:D

And hearing all those luvvly Lanky accents too:)

Re: Weave a future, hope and peace

Thanks Mobertol, It was a real journey with these young people. And each one has developed so much. And you wouldn't recognise Mel now, she has developed so much. They ALL have!
