A love poem
 

Susie lee done fell in love,
she planned to marry Joe.
She was so happy about it all,
she told her pappy so.

Pappy told her,Susie gal,
you'll have to find another.
I'd just as soon you'r ma don't know,
but Joe is you'r half brother.

So Susie put aside her Joe,
and planned to marry Will.
But after telling pappy this,
He said,"There's trouble still."

You can't marry Will. my gal,
and please don't tell you'r mother.
But Will and Joe,and several more,
I know is you'r half brother.

But mama knew and said, my child,
just do what makes you happy.
Marry Will or marry Joe:
you ain't no kin to pappy.:alright:

I have a poem in Lancashire dialect which is a duplicate of this. It is called 'All's Werl......'and was wrtitten by the late Trevor Mortonb of Middleton The last verse goes:-

Thar't a cleawt-heyd, young Jack-tha con go an' wed thi Jill
Or go back to that Jane if tha'd rather.
Tha gets reyt thrutched up o'er t'silliest things.
Doesta reckon thi dad's thi father?
