Load of balls

Has anyone noticed?
The long standing members are accused of being a cliquie?
No, sorry those of you simple minded enough to complain are wrong.
Not a clique just long standing members that have contributed to the site since in some cases from the beginning.
Look at other sites that started around the time we got together.
Where are they?
Perhaps with a hard core of members they too could still be going?
They are now unfortunately of no interest, AccyWeb continues, why?
The reason is simple, without grouping together, without forcing our views on the rest, we just comment.
Those that join planning to change what is working get upset, then say we are against you.
Wrong, wrong, wrong, we aren't against you, we just don't want you changing what actually works.
Put forward your view, but allow us to point out when you are talking rubbish.
AccyWeb is nearly ten years old, only because some of us have discussed/argued/chucked the dummy.
Not because we don't want new members, we like new members, however, why should new members be allowed to kill something that is working?

Re: Load of balls

It appears to me that there are some members who cannot stand to have their point of view challenged.....cannot present a decent argument without having to resort to name calling and invective
They ask for the views of members of this forum, but if the members do not agree with the viewpoint of the person who asked for those views in the first place, then they start to hurl insults.

I like accyweb......I like it a lot.
I haven't been here right from the start, but I have been here a long time.
I have seen people come and people go.....I have seen other forums try to do what Accyweb does(and does well).....none of them have managed to hold a candle to the 'feel' of Accyweb.

If you need something....call on Accyweb, there is sure to be someone who has just what you want......if you need information give Accyweb a shout and often as not someone will point you in the right direction.
It feels like home and the members feel like family. It grieves me when people come on and do the troll thing......post something contentious just to provoke reactions.

But in the end, if they are doing it here, they are leaving some other forum alone. My wish is that they run out of steam long before we do.

Oh and don't forget Less...if it isn't the Accyweb Clique(click for those who prefer that word - though it is wrong), it is the Accyweb Mafia.
I don't know how long you have to have been a member before you are drafted into the Accyweb Mafia - or maybe you have to have some other qualifying skill.
Whatever it is - I'm not in either!

All it seems you need is to have been a member with some form of long standing, be it from the beginning or having just that little bit of extra nous, when others join to correct how we've managed to survive they get upset because they can't take over.

There has never been a clique, there has never been a mafia, the ambitious amongst the newbies always use those phrases because they can't change the site.

Why? Because anyone that survives to be a regular poster understands we don't need to change.

Just shows how secretive it is, you were voted in as chairman three years ago. (good job you weren't given the secretaries job, we wouldn't have the minutes of when it happened).

Is anyone after changing AccyWeb? Some new members might not know how forums work, and feel bullied, having comments directed at them with some nice red Karma.

As it was me who mentioned Click recently first (Surprising how one little word has made it into so many other threads) I was only having a laugh with a Click;) member as he posted he was waiting for it to come. Seems alot of peole (same ones usually) get all defensive.;):D

Happen its the fact anyone doesn't agree with certain members or has a view point they cant understand the insults start, the red starts to flow and this is usually done in a pack like fashion.

Don't worry so much Margaret, we had a secret meeting in the telephone box at the bottom of Adelaide St, at midnight, and you are now an official member of the clique/click, but don't tell any one, its a secret, known only to the other members of the clique/click.

I don't think AccWeb needs changing ... it changes all the time without any formal efforts at revamping. In fact, I really don't think one should think of it as a "thing" ... more like a bunch of folks getting together and talking about "stuff" ... Sure there are some on here I like more than others. That doesn't, however, mean that I have to agree with them all the time. Some, I agree with only once in a blue moon.

One thing that particularly irks me though is ridiculing an argument merely because of the person who is making it ... that would be ad hominem for those of you folks who have benefited from the joys of Latin;). There again, we have to allow that there are different personalities on here, different ways of dealing with things. Personally, I like an argument, especially as I know that I am always right:alright:. I also happen to think tha C'mon and Mancie are right most of the time. They keep on posting. Maybe they haven't quite reached my level of perfection;), but they keep on posting and don't whine.

The red karma issue is not something I give much thought to. I don't recall ever giving any; but, if some wish to use it ... not my problem, eh.

Allow me to ask a question.

Let us first look into a couple of facts,
I have put over 8,000 posts on site, (not including the hundreds more that are in anything goes which aren't included towards post count), of which I doubt that a hundred posts have a reference to balls, not a very high percentage really is it?
You however have put 40 posts on site of which about four have been about me, that's 10% of your total.

And you call me obsessive? What does that make you?
;)

When Roy first started the site in 2003 he was working away in Russia, there wasn't facebook etc in fact most of the world was still on slow & expensive dial up.
So the site was a cheap way for ex-pats to keep in touch with folk at home.
I suppose really it should be, it's great how all the ex-pats let us locals play on THEIR website.

Aye, summat like. Had a dream the other nite. It was in the prairies of southern Saskatchewan ... in the village of Kincaid at the junction of hwys. 13 and 19. I was running accross the stubble fields attempting to catch a bus ... you know, one of those dreamtime runs where you don't get no place. And the bus was coming down 13! It was an old Accy double decker, the No. 1.
