Re: Happy Birthday Katex.
Spot on Sue...that guy is dead right....and the Tizer website says it has no atificial colours or flavours ...but when you check it is full of cyclamates(isn't that artificial sugar?).
Sorry to invade your birthday thread Kate.(Mick made me do it :D:D:D) |

Yes but cyclamates etc are sweeteners, not colours or flavours... From Wikipedia: In 2007 Tizer was re branded with the slogan 'Original Great Taste' and a classic Tizer recipe with fewer additives and no E numbers. However, despite the relaunch making great play of the addition of real fruit juice and the absence of artificial flavourings, colourings and sweeteners, the recipe was reverted in 2009 to remove the real fruit juice and reintroduce natural flavourings, natural colours and sweeteners (Acesulfame-K). |
Re: Happy Birthday Katex.
Yes.....Sue.....I was being a bit 'fly'.
Cyclamates are artificial, but because they are not flavour or colours they can advertise No artificial flavour/colours. |

Many Happy Returns, Kate.

Another interesting remark was by the Dietitian who told me that carbonated drinks draw calcium out of your body ? So, Tizer out. Well, only repeating what she said. Anyways, thank you everybody for your very kind wishes....xxxx |

Pleased to hear that the dietitian is on your case and hope you are managing to gain weight - not the easiest thing in the world after what you've been through. I'm still seeing mine occasionally and am pleased to say that I have reached my target set in Jan - a gain of about a kilo a month, slow but steady. |
Re: Happy Birthday Katex.
It is true that carbonated drinks leech calcium from your bones.....I hardly ever drink carbonated drinks, and I try to discourage the children from having them

Re: Happy Birthday Katex.
If Kate doesn't mind me hijacking her thread once again - but it was she who first brought the subject up...
Fizzy drinks and calcium is an interesting topic about which there appears to be some differences of opinion. One theory says that the loss of calcium in the bones is due to consumption of sodas rather than milk, another says that it's the caffeine and phosphorus in cola drinks that causes the leaching. I assume that fizzy drinks without these ingredients do not have an effect, but are just as bad for you because of the sugar content. Whatever, it seems that plain carbonated water is OK and may be good for you as some of them contain some calcium. It's not the carbonation that's doing the harm. Pick the bones out of that... (pun intended) |
Re: Happy Birthday Katex.
No I won't be picking any bones Sue....when there is one theory, there is always an equal and opposite one to get your head around :D

Re: Happy Birthday Katex.

Hahaha ... bet you don't ... Don't mind you hi-jacking this thread at all, Margaret. It is interesting. Suppose lemonade is bad ? Finding this really refreshing at the moment, as I still appear to be quite hydrated. |
