Travellers up back alleys in Ossy again

Just sat at my friends who lives on Roe Greave road in Ossy and i was gobsmacked at what i've just seen, a van which looked like a small Luton backed up right down the back alley and as it came forward a young traveller was stood on top of it looking in everyones back yards.

So if you live in Ossy and have anything of any value in your back garden i suggest you take it in the house, i know this has happened before but just warning you

i will probably be flamed for this but hey,

i find it odd, that you have a picture of the kray twins (convicted murderers), notorious criminals on your profile, but

some gypo,(and i apologise if anyone finds that term non-pc or insulting, its not meant like that, its a term i grew up with and its only the same as calling someone a "gobbiner, or a "wooden top" or even a "thick neck") drives down your backyard looking for old scrap, performing a free service your council that YOU pay council tax for, will charge you for again if you want that old cooker moving, and you think its ridiculous, yes i know sometimes they take things that dont belong to them, but they arent taking peoples lives and ruling an area of lancashire with an iron fist.

i for one leave any scrap i have at the front gate, and within the day its gone, left out for The Wombles only nowadays Orinocho and wellington are driving a flat back van, and wearing vests

Re: Travellers up back alleys in Ossy again

is there something wrong with warning people about this problem? If people WANT to leave things out for travellers then fair enough...but for them to stand on the top of vans actually LOOKING for things....i think thats a bit much

Why? I rang HBC about a knackered washing machine, they told me anything up to 2 weeks for collection, I put it out in the back yard with it holding my gate open and it was gone within 3 hours.

Perhaps the Council should employ them on a regular basis?
:)

I have seen them round my way, window down on passenger side of transit with someone sat on the door so they can see over the back yards. My next door neighbour had his ally extension ladder stolen from his locked back yard.

Do you think that is ok?

Do you think he was happy that

Mick cleaned up this thread once and the name calling continued. I have removed all the off topic posts.
The thread is a warning about people driving down back streets looking over your wall to see what they can steal. Please can we keep it on thread?

Funny. We had them knock on the door. "got any metal" is what I think they said. We said no we do not have any metal. Te reply was "how about that bed"

We had a bed in the back garden. They was welcome to it we said. But. There was no metal in the bed we, it is a divan. They suddenly lost interest.

Also HBC didn't come to pick it up either. Instead I got an email saying they couldn't come due to the roadworks in the peel area, I couldn't believe my ears. On my block there at lease 4 ways to get onto the back alley and the road works was down the street.

H.B.C. are as much to blame as anyone fer this action, yeh ring em up n they say, it will be collected within 10-14 days, so leave yer back door open, its no wonder people leave stuff out fer these people, it sure aint safe these days to leave yer gate unlocked, There was also n owd guy on our row had some ally ladders nicked from his yard 3/4 yrs ago, Yeh can't prove who nicked em, but i know were my money would go. n Rindy, yer question i think was answered by Flashy yesterday, but it may have been removed?:D

We once had an old gas fire in the yard just after we moved in
the back gate was barred but they climbed over next doors wall as there gate was open.
they then unbarred the gate and i caught them leaving with the gas fire in our wheelie bin.
got the bin back .

i have no problem with them asking Mick, it's when like you say, they just enter your property without your say so

Flashy if they had knocked at the door and asked about the gas fire they could have had it no problem it gets the junk out the yard but to climb over the wall and nick me bin as well is a bit cheeky

Always a good idea to write down a number-plate -just in case things start to disappear -the Police might have something to follow up then...

Yes, a P.O. box, in the west of Ireland.

Though as yet no one has been along to collect all the fines.

Whoops.

All the mail.

I wouldn't know that, they probably don't have insurance or anything being of no fixed abode but the police can put an allert out on a number plate and stop and search them.

When I was over in April a similar thing happened in Rishton as a van kept touring round the estate where I was staying at a friends -a number of motorbikes and other things got taken over a weekend and we had written down the number-plate to get it checked out. Don't know if anything came of it though..

I always wonder where they post the leccy bill to, when they've wired their supply from a lamp post.

There was a few doing this, behind the health centre on Blackburn Road, for months.

I'm sure their bills must have been quite hefty.

What a shame, O.K. she's part of the plod, but it shouldn't matter if she's a Police Inspector or a Cleaner, something should be done when there is a crime committed and reported.

What I actually said was, "I suggest you mosey on over to another thread", not find another forum.

Thread wanders are part and parcel of Accyweb. In my view, they're one of the factors that adds to Accyweb's appeal as a unique and very individualistic local messageboard. If thread wanders carry on for too long the mods can always be relied on to step in. The thread wander in question only lasted for a few posts anyway before returning to the subject in hand. If threads started by you are so sacrosanct that any thread wander offends you, I suggest that you are going to have a difficult time on Accyweb, because we will certainly not be changing our attitude on thread wanders just to suit you!

Thread wander over. Carry on. ;)

Actually I think ChurchFC was miffed because his posts on this thread were seen as a thread wander from the original topic - they led to some name calling and the posts were deleted so in his eyes the thread wander was not allowed, when he would have liked the topic to be addressed - even though thread wandering as you say is a feature of Accyweb.

Apols if I have got hold of the wrong end of the stick, but that's how I understand it and I'm with ChurchFC all the way on this one.

Agreed.

First rule of never creating trouble for yourself here.

Never use threads to publicly criticise the moderators' work here on Accy Web.

Abide by the rules, and do as they suggest.

If you have a problem with any issue raised, private message them, and they'll do the best they can to help you.

It works.

Re: Travellers up back alleys in Ossy again

A policeman friend was telling me of a year or two ago when a convoy of 'travellers' turned up on his patch. They stopped them at the exit to the motorway and the travellers complained they were going to a field nearby. As they hadn't permission the police said 'Go away' and the travellers said 'No, we'll all just park here blocking the motorway'. So the police let them go, leaving it up to the poor farmer to get them moved.
He commented most of the caravans and cars were stolen and not taxed or insured. When I asked why didn't the police just impound them all he said that would just result in a massive increase in car and caravan theft in the area, so not worth the agro.
Can't win, can we?

Yes, my plan worked devilishly well.

They were sick when they saw me naked in the back yard.

Sadly some poor old bird was similarly sick at the thought of me in the buff.
