Well according to all those who believe the Mayan Calender anyway.
With 10 days to go, I wonder what everyone is planning?
Apparently panic buying is the way to go?

I am sure that I read (somewhere - probably internet) that these prophesies were concocted by a couple of hippies in the 60s or 70s - while they were under the influence of magic mushrooms.
Anyway, if it is somethig that is going to happen I can't see a whole lot that can be done about it...blow panic buying.....anyway I thought that was happening anyway.......aren't the shops closed for a day or two at christmas...that put panic into the hearts of many(though I am not one of them - what we haven't got, we can live without...unless of course it is air):D

Well Mrs BG is looking forward to a bit of peace and quiet when it ends, I have no need to panic buy, I have lists of fresh coffee in and more importantly plenty of tea, after all you cannot beat a nice cup of tea.

Panic buying 25 years worth of food?

If that's anything like buying a Christmas hamper it means they'll have 20 years of good eating and 5 years of eating the really grotty stuff that nobody really likes and leaves until last.

The Mayan (long Count) calendar is based on astronomical observations.

Mayan Calendar -- from Eric Weisstein's World of Astronomy
" A complicated and accurate calendar using three simultaneous independent systems. It consisted of the Long Count, Tzolkin, and Haab. The Long Count is related to precession of the equinoxes, and will end in 2012 when the winter solstice will be very near the point at which the ecliptic plane and galactic plane intercept "

I have read books by John Calleman and watched videos by John Jenkins - they disagree about the long count 'end date'.

What is meant by 'end' is also just speculation

Yes I know I had three days before xmas and I would have bought it, but, the post office was inundated with last minute gifts to deliver from others like me.
I thought sod it, I wouldn't normally have sent her anything anyway.

After all, the end of the world could last a long time.

Didn't he tweak it a bit to make it end then? According to Wikipedia:

McKenna expressed "novelty" in a computer program which purportedly produces a waveform known as "timewave zero" or the "timewave". "Timewave zero" is a numerological formula that purports to calculate the ebb and flow of "novelty", defined as increase over time in the universe's interconnectedness, or organized complexity. Based on McKenna's interpretation of the King Wen sequence of the I Ching, the graph appears to show great periods of novelty corresponding with major shifts in humanity's biological and sociocultural evolution. He believed that the events of any given time are recursively related to the events of other times, and chose the atomic bombing of Hiroshima as the basis for calculating his end date of 16 November 2012. When he later discovered that the end of the 13th baktun in the Maya Calendar had been correlated by Western Maya scholars with December 21, not far from his own hypothesized end date, he decided that the Maya were more likely to be right on this subject and he adopted their end date.

I have been trying to plough through his Food of the Gods: The Search for the Original Tree of Knowledge - A Radical History of Plants, Drugs, and Human Evolution but found it hard going -still only a third of the way through.

Anyway you did have a Blue Riband with your coffee.
